Getting to work early/staying late vent
Before I start, let me say that I do work in a school and I am lucky enough to follow the school schedule. I get snow days and holidays as well as summer break off. I also come to work about 30-45 minutes before I'm supposed to and I stay on average 1 1/2-2 1/2 hours later with some days even longer. I don't get paid extra for the time outside of our school day and I understand that's part of the job. I get irritated when people who are not school employees tell me, "Oh only 2 more weeks and then you're off for the summer, you're so lucky". I work damn hard at my job to make sure my students get the help they need. I may not work 12 months of the year but I certainly put my time in. I almost feel like if I added up all of the hours I work during the 10 month school year, it would be the same as a 12 month non-school employee. GRRRR...thanks for letting me vent.
Re: Getting to work early/staying late vent
You what. I knew teachers brought work home with them, but i thought it was like grading papers and such. and I did really think what teachers did during the summer.
I just wanted to say vent away. AND Thank you so much for doing one of the hardest jobs and being dedicated.
I have had a few really super teachers and the memories of them have stayed with me long after class was over. The teacher truely makes the difference.
I don't really understand what you're mad about. That people think you are lucky to get a big summer break? Do you think recognizing that you have a long break somehow demeans the hard work you do during the school year?
All jobs have perks and negatives (?) - long breaks seems to be one of the perks for teachers.
there are alot of idiots!
