TX 2 NYC?

Hello ladies, I have been on this website for awhile, but mostly on the Dallas side. My husband (of 6 weeks) is in the process of interviewing for a position that would require us to move to NYC. I have traveled to the city every year for the past 6, but never looking at it in the way that I am now. I love the city and I am excited but I need some help. Our most opinionated friend is a guy that went to school with my husband and wants us to live close so they can party- not the opinion I am seeking! Can I get some advice on where we should live and the easiest (most affordable way) to go about finding an apartment? We are 26 and my husband is 29, no children, looking to live in Manhattan (probably near upper east or gramercy), and we have a dog so outdoor space would be a major plus. I would like to keep our rent at or near $3000. Anything?

Re: TX 2 NYC?

  • i live in brooklyn, so i am of very little help as far as finding a good spot, but i will tell you that you will NOT find a location in those neighborhoods of manhattan with outdoor space.  you may find one that is close to a dog park, though.

if you want outdoor space, your best bet is to look in the outer boroughs, which, i assure you, all have their own unique charm.  i've lived in both brooklyn and queens, and have good things to say about both, though they are very different.

please look in the green box at the top of the NYC Nesties page.  there is an FAQ there that may answer many of your questions.

  • Hi there! We moved to NY from DFW in November and have loved it! I don't really have any advice for finding a place - we used an agent and I will happily PM you his information, if you want - but mostly wanted to let you know there is another TX Transplant on here!!  Welcome!!!

  • Oh so great to know!! We are coming up this weekend to take a better look around and then he interviews Tuesday morning. Hopefully we know something by late next week as I am sick of living in limbo! I may actually bug you a little more if this works out! Thanks for letting me know I am not alone ;)
