Post bcp skin

I know this has been discussed before, but my face is really hit up so I've been thinking about it a lot. I stopped bcp in July (so almost a year) and if anything, the last two months have been worse.

How long did your skin/face take to chill out?

Any tips/tricks?

I tried Proactiv, I've been to the derm & tried Epiduo, it's just not working. :/

Re: Post bcp skin

  • I've always struggled with acne, and it never calmed down with BCP and it kept getting worse when I was off bcp.  I actually get put on Minocycline frequently to help clear it up.  I also use the Epiduo and Differin.  I switch between the 2 (so one year Epiduo, next year Differin).  How long have you been using the Epiduo?  I know it took a few months for me to get it working.

  • Mine took around a month to go back to normal.

Is your skin oily now?  Oil seemed to be my problem for the first month.  I just used rubbing alcohol on my face twice a day, plus clean and clear face wash with salyic acid.  Now my skin isn't oily anymore, I think it was just the initial reaction.

This was going around the boards around the time I was having problems, but I never got around to trying it, yet everyone claimed it worked for them.

I didn't give the Epiduo a few months, more like a month & a half. I was getting flaky even using a tiny amount once a day. Maybe I should try again.

Don't use it everyday.  Use it every other day.  If that is still drying you out too much go every 3rd day.  There is no way I could use it every day, my skin immediately dries out and starts flaking.

I wouldn't say it's oily. I don't even get "regular" zits - they're deep under the skin & sometimes they don't even come to a head, they just throb then die down, but it takes weeks. I've read the oil method & am intrigued.

  • I use Clean & Clear products - I have three different ones I use - I only exfoliate twice a week - the other times I use cleansers only.  I also only wash my face once a day per my derms suggestion.

By exfoliating too often and washing twice a day I was causing my skin to overproduce oil because it was being stripped away.

I also make sure I put lotion on my face right after I wash it to help seal in the moisture.
