Fun question

to hopefully entertain us for a little while:

Movies and books for probably the last 50 years were predicting we'd have all kinds of cool technology and gadgets by now.  Obviously, some of them have happened (computers,cell-phones, tablets) but theres some pretty big ones that are sadly missing (flying cars, hooverboards, hologram communication, etc). So, what future tech do you really wish we had now or hope to have in our lifetime?

Ooo, a good one.  I would think that electric cars would work best with that system, which would also help with our oil issues.

I  really want to see more hologram technology.  Whether it be entertainment, like hologram tv or more practical, like for use in meetings instead of conference calling.

Also, teleporters. I hate, hate flying. It would be so cool to just step onto the teleporter pad and then be at your destination a few seconds later. I know they are working on this right now, but its super small scale (like, they've been successful teleporting a single atom a few inches away I think)

  • Gas that pumps itself.

Dishes that wash and put themselves away.

Clothes that wash, iron wrinkles, fold, and put themselves away.

Garbage cans that take themselves out when full.

    Bathrooms that clean themselves.

Dogs that scoop their own poop.

    Lawns that mow themselves.

In short, I hope the next 30 yrs involves a lot of laziness on my part.

This reminds of Sleeping Beauty, with the house cleaning itself...

Man, I'm all about the movie references today.

  • There's an episode of the Jetsons where they have an "environmental transformulator." I'd love to have one of those! I also need a hubercar and teleportation machine. And a robot maid.

More seriously, I'm surprised we haven't been able to do more with alternative energy than we have. I would think that by now the majority of our energy would be coming from solar, wind, or biomass energy. I also think there should be some way to capture and harbor the energy from lightening.

Yes, robot maid. I want... no, wait.... NEED one. Immediately, I can't wait 30 yrs.

This, yes, seconded, lol. But seriously...why do we not have robot maids yet?!

We do. Sorta. It's called the Roomba.

But I don't know if I am so open to the idea of robot maids. The machines are going to rise. Anyone ever see that so-bad-it's-good movie with Tom Selleck as a cop battling and evil Gene Simmons who had reprogrammed all the robot workers, including the nannybots and housekeeperbots? Hilarious. And frightening.

Ah Runaway. A fun movie. I'm pretty sure though that the robots only went haywire because Simmon's programmed them to and if I recall, they only went after specific targets. When I think of robots taking over, I think either Terminator, Matrix, or more likely, I,Robot. The key thing to remember there is AI - don't give the robots AI and they won't become self aware, and therefore will not rise against the humans.  And although a Roomba is a good start as far as robot maids go, I'm talking human like (look like they do in I,Robot) that not only vacuum, but dust, cook, clean, grocery shop, run general errands, etc.
