s/o swimsuits... should mom's wear bikinis?

I'm not talking tankini/more coverage suits... I'm talking good ol' bikinis.  Not necessarily itty-bitty-string-bikini, but very much a two-piece.

I probably should not shove my body into one post baby, but that's the only suit I have.  Would you give the side eye to a mom in a bikini?  Would you secretly judge her and think, "Oh tacky.  Cover-up lady!"

Maybe that's a silly question, but I don't know the 'etiquette' on this.  I'd love your opinion!

  • If you can pull it off, go for it!

If I had the body to rock a bikini post baby I would totally do it.  I do fully intend to sport my bikini with my huge pregnant belly this summer!  I will say, I have a cousin who has had two kids and is probably 50 pounds overweight and she still wears her bikini everywhere.  That I do give the side eye to, but only because I can't imagine being confident enough at that weight to do it.

    Well that's a separate question, haha :)

  • Totally. At Ankeny pool there are usually tons of moms in bikinis. Some have awesome bodies, others not so perfect. Like someone else said, having the confidence is half the battle. (Isn't that true for everything though?)
Happy mom to two sweet, silly boys: Cohen age 4, AJ age 2.
  • You totally can. I just wear a tankini to hide my awesome stretchmark collection I got from my three awesome kids. If I didn't have those I'd totally wear a regular bikini.

  • If I wasn't self conscious of my stretchmarks (or better yet didn't have them!), I would totally wear a two piece.  When I see a mom wearing one, I'm envious.  I don't judge... I want :)

  • If I weighed about 60 pounds less and didn't have a flabby belly, I would.  I just don't have the confidence right now.  Shoot, I don't have the confidence to wear a 1 piece!  I don't judge moms that still wear them as long as nothing inappropriate is hangin' out.

  • As long as its not a string bikini, I would wear it. I would totally rock my bikini if it weren't for my awesome stretch marks (I sometimes wear it anyway at my parents house). You look great- definitely go for it!

  • If your body looks great in a bikini then absolutely you should wear it proudly! IF there's any doubt, then probably not. Keep in mind that I'm older though. You might be able to get away with more as a younger mom.

I'll chime in as a non-mom.  I don't think there should be a different standard in what you should be able to wear.

If you want to wear a bikini and feel ok with it - go for it!  I'll be watching jealously from the sidelines because I've never had the body to wear one :)

  • I think if you feel fit enough to wear a bikini, go with it.  I don't have any inherent problem with mom wearing bikinis at all!

  • I saw some really cute ones in the VS catalog that weren't overly skimpy or skanky. If you got it, flaunt it. I don't have it, therefore DH will be taking B to the pool and I'll stay home with the dogs this year.

  • Go for it!  I basically have the same imperfections I had pre baby.  Also I am an AMA mom as periodically disclosed and I wear my two piece without thinking twice about it.

  • I hope its ok for moms to wear bikinis, b/c I don't see stopping any time soon. My torso is too long for a regular one piece, and I work too hard to try to have a  nice figure to cover it up completely.  I don't have the body I'd love to have, but it isn't too bad so I just wear what I like.
