Summer Shoes for Babes

Nolan is not quite walking yet (just taking a few steps here and there), but I want to find him some good summery shoes or sandals that are breathable.  I love the Robeez, but they already make his feet kind of sweaty.   And I want something sturdier than those adorable little flip-flops with the straps on the back.   Can you recommend anything???

Re: Summer Shoes for Babes

  • I just got DD a pair of Teva Psyclone sandals based on another mom's recommendation.  DD seems to like them.  They do run a bit big, so if you're inbetween on sizes I'd pick the smaller size.

  • I hit up stride rite, they have a bunch of early walking shoes. I also liked how even the regular shoes are a lightweight leather and peanut's feet seem to breathe pretty well so far.

My co-worker gave Marcus a hand me down pair of those same teva sandals Kimberly posted.  They look really comfortable, and he likes wearing them.  They do seem to run big, because the ones he has are a 4/5 and he wears more like a 5.5/6 now, and they fit perfectly.  So definitely order down a size.  I had already bought him a pair of velcro teva-like sandals at payless, but they're too big and they don't look as comfy as the teva ones he has.  Last summer he either went barefoot or he had a little pair of croc like shoes he wore, but he really wasn't walking last summer so it didn't really matter what he wore.

  • Taylor has some teva's similar to those ones kimberly posted.  She hasn't worn them because I think they are too big.  I love the Stride Rites I bought her at Lamey's and I bought her a pair of Merrill sandals.  I love them and they are cute but don't fit her right so they fall off all the time and are a bear to get back on.

  • I've also heard that Keen sandals are good, especially for kids with wide feet.  (Helen's feet aren't at all wide which is why I went with the adjustable Tevas.)

  • Thanks for the recs!  I was drooling over some Keens on Amazon.   Good to know about the wide feet - Nolan has some little chubbers!  :)

  • They're on the pricey side, but if you can find them on sale, check out Pedipeds.  Great soft leather soles for early walkers, but tons of styles, including sandals.

That said, Owen has always been a mostly Circo and Stride Rite kid. :)
