Job situation

So - I took on the job of conference manager. I created a contract that says I will work 5-10 hours and do as much of it from home as possible. I also detailed my responsibilities so I don't get stuck doing my old job. The new guy is already not working out so great. Part of it is her comparing him to me and part of it is him but hopefully he'll get it. When I trained him he literally took 50 pages of notes and now can't remember anything or where to find it in his notes because he took too many! I had to walk him through a simple task on the website yesterday because of that fact.

Anyway, she gave me a couple dollars an hour more than the position used to pay, which is pretty awesome!

So, with that and my Elance jobs, I am basically working FT from home. I must be nuts but oh well, it'll work out! I just really need a date night with Arek or a night where I'm not allowed to work because right now every waking moment of my free time (evenings, when Lucie is napping etc.) is spent working and I need time to myself, with Arek and to clean and get other jobs done! Conference is at the end of July so after that I won't have as much work to do and that'll be an awesome paycheck as I'll be working about 50 hours that week. We decided that as we already set a budget based on how much I needed to bring in, anything extra is going to my student loans so hopefully I'll get them paid off ASAP!

Re: Job situation

  • That is great that you are doing FT but doing it from home, but you are right it is hard sometimes. Could you get a sitter for Lucie one day a week or so and that way you can spend your day just doing work and maybe that will help you have some night off?

I don't know if this would work or not but could you write a manual on how to do everything and then organize it in a notebook? I have everything written down on how to do everything I do and then have it sorted in a notebook. I know you probably don't have a lot of time but maybe this will help you and him (mostly from him calling you about everything).

That will be great if you can get your SL paid off quickly as that will be a huge financial burden off of you (I know it was for me)

  • thats great! I think taking Heather's idea of getting a sitter in atleast once a week would help ease some of your stress. Maybe you could take her to your parents and go to a coffee shop and work just to get you out of the house.

TT and I are both very lucky that we both got a full ride scholarships for school....I got a academic scholarship and he got a baseball scholarship.

That's awesome, Caroline!  Especially that she's paying you more per hour!

I definitely think that a sitter once a week or maybe for a couple hours a couple days a week would be a good idea.  It's what I plan to do (if we ever have kids).
