Dishwasher doesn't get dishes clean!

My dishwasher is relatively new (less than 2 years) and suddenly it is not getting my dishes as clean as it used to.  I have been using the same detergent all along, so I don't know why this is suddenly happening.  Any suggestions?

Is it leaving a white residue? If so, it's b/c detergent makers are removing the phosphates from the soap since they are bad for the environment.

Add a hearty splash of distilled white vinegar to the bottom of the machine before you run a cycle and that should help.

How much is a hearty splash?  About half a cup?  And just pour it into the bottom of the dishwasher?  I'm so going to try this, my dishes always come out with white power on them and I have to rinse them after the dishwasher runs.  It's defeating the purpose.

I just had this problem and starting using this method.  I don't measure but I guess it's around 1/2- 1 cup.  and yep I just pour it down on the bottom right before I start it.  I don't know if it matters but I first hand washed all my dishes to get rid of the residue before I used the dishwasher again and haven't had the residue issue anymore.

  • Try running your sink with hot water for a few seconds. Make sure the water is hot before starting the dishwasher. This may help. We had problems with the dishwasher not washing the dishes well, and this is what the dishwasher guy told us to do. It works for us.

  • The article I read referred a product called Lemishine which has worked well for us.  It's a powder that is found near the rinse aids. However, it's kinda pricy for the amount we go through...so we're gonna try vinegar.  We need a new dishwasher all together but we're holding out till we can get all new appliances.

  • I had this problem, too. Take apart your dishwasher and clean out the filters (mine is on the bottom- a piece pops off, and there is a filter inside- it was nasty!). I also use vinegar, but I put mine in the compartment for Jet Dry.

This is what I do and my glasses are clean and film free. I also live in an area that has extremely hard water and we don't have a water softener so the vinegar helps a lot and is much cheaper than Jet Dry.
