What is this plant? I swear it's pure evil.

I need to get out and take a picture, but I'll see if anyone can tell by a description.

It grows out of the ground in canes or brambles. The leaves are green--almost fern-like and the canes are very thorny. Some of the bushes have small red berries on them, but not all of them do. They seem to be very prolific and are choking a lot of our other plants. Any ideas?

I took several out today. I had to wear 2 pairs of gloves and we ended up wacking all the leafy parts away and then digging out the roots from the ground. It was a nightmare.

  • berries

The berries look like this, but the leaves are more like a fern....I'll try to find pics.

  • Blackberry or salmonberry maybe? They can take over entire yards in the Northwest and they are a royal pain in the ass to get rid of. I'm pretty new to gardening, so my two cents may be worth just that :).
