Re: i just threw away

  • Ick!  I know the feeling, though...I just purged my freezer a few days ago - Eggo waffles from 2009 are NOT good eats!
  • True Story: I cleaned out my parents' pantry once when I was in college or shortly thereafter. I found baking powder... unopened... that expired in 1979. NINETEEN *** SEVENTY NINE. We didn't even move into that house until 1985 so she either moved it from the old house or it was there since the house was built!
  • When we just bought our fridge and had to go through everything in the old one,
I was shocked at how much stuff was expired!  I just don't pay much attention to the date on stuff unless it's my milk carton!

Oh yes, condiments expire but many people ignore it.

  • This could be a fun game.....what's the oldest food item in your pantry/fridge/cupboard. Hahaha!

I just threw away Jello that expired in 2009. But Thor clearly has me beat with her 32 year old baking powder, lol!

  • I'm really good about tossing expired items but my Mom is horrid! I know she's had some spices since I was a kid but she always catches me when I try to toss them. A few weeks ago when I was home I pulled out some baby powder from 1985. Why in the world would you keep baby powder that long?!? We've moved 8 times since 1985 so there has been a concious effort to keep it!

  • Wow! I thought I was bad. But Thors baking soda wins hands down. Last summer I did a major pantry purge and I had stuff in there from 2006 (H moved into this house in 2005).

OH wait!! Just 2 1/2 weeks ago I cleaned out our chest freezer in the basement. I tossed out an entire chest freezer full of Venison from 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ick! My dad gave us the meat and H would never let me cook it. I went through a 6 month period of him opening the trash can to see if there was butcher paper every time I cooked something that could have been beef or venison. So I gave up and it just sat there.
