B&SIL coming w/ 2 boys...any advise for prep?

Alright, so my BIL&SIL are coming to visit for their summer vacation. They have two boys and we don't have any kiddos right now. With that being said, I'm not exactly sure on what to have around the house for an eight and four year old. I have extended an e-mail to my SIL to see if there is anything that they need, food allergies anyone might have, etc. Any suggestions?

  • How long will they be there?

Maybe a pass to a local pool or rec center.  Video games/movies?  Library card?

  • I vote for bubbles.  They are cheap and fun for all.
  • Beach balls and bubbles are cheap and great for outside.  Match box cars are great for inside.

Put medicines, sharp things like razors, and cleaning supplies out of reach.

See if you can figure out which kid-friendly tv channels you have (Disney, PBS, Nick).

I have a 4 year old. When we travel to visit family I bring toys and things my son will need with me.  YOu may want to have some kid friendly foods available

Breakfast:  pancakes, bagels, doughnuts (a real treat for kids!), fruit

Snacks:  Cheeze It's, graham crackers, cheese/crackers, fruit, milk, apple juice, apple sauce

You might get a box of Mac N Cheese in case.

remember too, they are not going to want to play with each other the entire time; think of some places they can go one on one with another adult; or some things to do alone.

Modelling clay is cheap and kept my kids occupied for hours making little animals etc.

  • Thank you all for your advice. I got a beach ball for our pool, put up all the cleaning supplies, had kid friendly meals/ snacks, got out my Disney DVD collection, and they seemed hapily entertained. :)
