A couple of months ago, I was telling some of the girls on here that I
had called them to get a quote and that they came in almost 1/3 the
price of Merry Maids. We were finally able to get them come in today
and I don't recognize my house!!!! It's so clean and they actually did a
better job than Merry Maids. They also straightened some things and
just were really awesome. Their price break occurs at 3000 sq. feet
(we're at almost 2k). If you are considering getting a cleaner to come
in, I can highly recommend them.

Summer,
Yes, apparently so. She said if our house was over 3000sqft then it would have been more but I have a feeling it still would have been cheaper than what we were being charged for our house. So I would imagine you would be a bit cheaper than us. They cleaned things that the Merry Maid ladies never would clean. Our house looks great (and I do not get a referral bonus so I'm saying this very sincerely).
For all of you considering a cleaning service, it is awesome. I've had someone clean my house for the past 3 years. It goes back to the question, what is your time worth, and do you value doing things on your own, or are you okay paying others to do them so you have time for other things.
For me, I value my free time, so as long as they are doing a better job than me, and I have the money to afford it, it is no question for me. I also know that when I am cleaning on my own, I will go longer than 2 weeks to clean the tub, dust the shelves and blinds, etc. My house always looks better because it is cleaned top to bottom regularly.

They cleaned the baseboards and the window sills and the blinds, de-furred our couch, dusted, cleaned glass in the tables, cleaned our kitchen and bathrooms from top to bottom, mopped, vaccuumed, straightened up (MM wouldn't touch it if it was out of place), and even cleaned up the kitties' feeding area (something else they wouldn't do). I think once we get everything put in a place, it will look even better. This is more of a "what don't they do" kind of thing, Bobbileigh.
This is us. Bill and I usually don't make it home until close to 6 PM (if there's nothing going on) and by the time we eat dinner and do the dishes, it's close to 7:30 and then sometimes we both have work to do that evening. The only thing we do as our bi-monthly cleaning comes up is pick up and make sure they can clean everything. It usually takes an hour on Tuesday nights (sometimes less). I have managed to get rid of my pack rat ways since I married Bill, mainly because he's worse than I am. However, after I pick up after him and throw away things that are national treasures, I don't have enough time or energy left to do the rest of it. And seriously, he got upset when I told him he couldn't keep a Sprint shirt (from when he worked for them) because it was ugly, it had holes and he hadn't worn it in four years.
You had me at de-furred. Haha. I kind of think this might be a great idea for DH and I as well. We both work a lot and cleaning on the weekend is such a pain. I might try a deep clean once a month and contine to do some light cleaning in between. I can be really picky, though. Julie - are you really picky?

Hmmm, well, sometimes. What used to get me with Merry Maids is that they claimed that they hand washed the floor but I would still see parts of some of the girls', ahem, regurgitation spots. I left one for two months (we had cleaned up the rest of it, it just needed to be washed over with a mop or something) and they never did clean it. I felt that they did a really great job if I was there but, once school started back up, I felt that we were not getting as good a cleaning as when I was there. We weren't there at all yesterday and I can see that they did a better job. There are a few things that I think could have been done better but it was a cluttered area and that's on us for not getting the area better prepared. I'm excited to see the house again in two weeks to see how much better they get after getting the rest of it picked up.
Um yes me too!
I do love the idea. In theory.
I think my biggest thing with a house cleaner is that although I would love to have the extra time, I would be afraid I'd be thinking "Man, if I just did this myself I'd have that extra $100 to spend on X, or to put in the bank..."
That's why I've never hired one. Although sometimes it may not seem that way, I'm pretty frugal and I like saving my money. I've always had a hard time paying someone to do something that I can do myself. Up until the last year, I used to take my car to the quarter car wash and hand wash it myself, spend like over an hour detailing it before I would pay $20 to take it to a car wash so they could do 1/2 the job I would. Well, the newness of my car wore off, I got lazy and more busy, and now I just take it to a car wash.
But, I also have a feeling once we have kids, and our lives really get hectic then I may reconsider my position. But, right now, I can spend the extra hour or so every week cleaning our apartment.
And it probably helps that we do live in an apartment, so there isn't a lot of space to clean.
My DH cleans some things really well, without even being asked. But he doesn't really dust. And he won't touch the toilet.
But he does the dishes, and vacuums, and cleans the bathtub(which I hate).
Haha, well mine doesn't do it all ALL the time. I actually enjoy cleaning.
Mine does laundry, vaccums, vacuums/mops, toilets, bathtubs, etc. Neither of us dust very often because we both have bad allergies and it seems like it is better in its resting place than stirred up in the air.
We only have 2 rooms with carpet though so we don't really have that much dust. I guess we sweep/mop the rest off the hard floors.
I would love to have a house cleaner. Between 2 dogs, a kiddo, a husband that makes a mess jus standing still and being busy all the time my house is always dirty looking to me. Everyone always comments on how clean the house looks but that's because it takes me 2 days to clean when we are having guesst.
DH is also one of those people that would rather do it himself than pay someone to do it. On somethings I agree. Cleaning is not one of them. I hate to sweep and mop and right now my floors are horrible looking because of the mud outside and my dogs. DH doesn't notice it as much as me and he is the one that is suppose to sweep and mop. I told him I'd do the bathrooms if he swept and mopped. Let's just say that if I didn't run the Roomba almost everyday we'd be living in a foot of hair since DH claims to not see the hairballs floating around the house.
I think I would definitely do it if I had kids. I don't think I could keep up with it all and spend time with my kids.
DH doesn't do toilets, either. Which sometimes frustrates me. Hello, he's the one that pees all over it.
Right!
I can agree with this, up to a certain extent. I think I've told y'all that my FIL is this way no matter what. He tries to repair dishwashers but breaks them further (both his and Bill's in an attempt to see how things are supposed to go back in there). He eventually bought a new dishwasher for my MIL but said that he could install it himself and save the $75. Well, two weeks later and countless trips to Lowe's later and it's still not installed so he waited until Bill and my BIL came home to do it over Christmas.
There are some things that we do ourselves but some things I just don't have the energy for.
I love the satisfaction of doing certain things myself. Right now DH and I have ripped up the deck in our backyard and are working on expanding it. FUN! When I moved into my house, I gutted and remodeled the bathroom with the help of my mom and brother. That is FUN to me. I like knowing when I walk in there that I did all the work on my own. But to me, things like cleaning the house, yard work, and ironing (I take to the dry cleaners) don't excite me, I procrastinate, and would rather be doing other things. So as long as I can afford to pay for those services, I will.
