I found this reading the discussion on the FB questions app about the amendment. The man is the director of the St Paul Area Council of Churches.
"As Christians, we are required to respect the dignity of every human being. As human beings, we do not choose our sexual orientation; we accept it, struggle with, or try to deny it, recognizing that human sexual orientation extends across a continuum from homosexual to heterosexual.
To deny gay men and lesbian women to marry is to deny them a human right based on a prejudice against their human nature. It may be hard for some of us to accept that sexual orientation is given in nature, but that is not a good reason to deny persons what is their human right. There were times when African Americans were considered less than fully human and when women were not allowed to vote in national elections. Today we know far more about human sexuality than we did a century ago, let alone 2,000 or 3,000 years ago.As the Apostle Paul writes in thirteenth chapter of his First Letter to the Corinthians, there is a time to grow up and to give up childish things for the sake of love. Now is the time for our state and our nation to make it legal for gays and lesbians to marry."
Re: amazing quote RE: the gay marriage amendment
Beautifully written. I hope his message reaches lots and lots and lots of people (especially the Christians preaching from a platform of intolerance and inequality.)
