I want a beer

I love having some nice cold beer (mmm Geary's Summer Ale) in the summer or the occasional glass of wine or fruity girl drink. I seem to remember a post on here some time ago where people were discussing mocktail recipes. I wasn't really paying attention at the time though, since I didn't have to, so I don't remember any of them.

Anyone feel like sharing any with me? Might be kind of fun to try one this weekend...well, as much fun as a booze-less drink can be. :P

  • Beer

I didn't note any websites that anyone posted, but I took down the name of a book that someone mentioned.

Margarita Mama: Mocktails for the Mom-to-Be

  • Yep, Margarita Mama -- great book with great recipes!  (My favorite is the basil lime martini).  Check out shuga's blog; she made several of the drinks from the book while pregnant.  Also, try Kaliber or Clausthaler -- they're both decent N/A beers.

  • I miss Shipyard Summer and Magic Hat Wacko big time! Usually when I go out I get whatever N/A beer is available or a N/A rum runner. . . I would be interested in discovering a few more mocktails to add to the repertoire.

  • Not going to lie....I have had a few sips of beer here and there. And I had about a quarter of a beer at a party 2 weeks ago. It was delightful. I have told DH that he is bringing me a Sams Summer in the hospital after I have the baby.

  • Personally, I plan to indulge in a drink (one beer or one glass of wine) from time to time when I get PG, but I can understand people who are adamantly abstaining.

That being said, I made a yummy little drink for Mother's Day: lemonade with a splash of pomegranate juice and a floater of seltzer. Garnish with a lemon round and/or pomegranate seeds.

I'm very against drinking alcohol during pregnancy (for myself). My Aunt drank and smoked during her pregnancy and gave birth to premature very handcapped twins. My aunt is an alcoholic and she drank to the point of getting drunk several times during her pregnancy which is obviously a lot worse than an occassional drink or two and I'm sure the cigarettes didn't help either. Knowing her she probably also smoked pot a couple of times as well.

Logically, I know having a beer or two during my pregnancy would be fine and I'm not against others doing it in a responsible manner. However, personally I just couldn't ever bring myself to do it after knowing the life those kids have ended up with because of their mother's drinking.

Apples and oranges, IMO. But I get where you're coming from.

And on a lighter note, try my lemonade/pomegranate idea, it's really fun to drink out of champagne glasses.  :)

Oh I know. Definitely apples to oranges. Like I said, I know it's not logical. Just something I'm not interested in doing personally.

I will try it...with the fancy schmancy glasses too! :)
