Any one still waiting on your wedding video?

I still have not received my wedding video, and was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue. I am going to write my videographer an email and I need some help composing it. I have been extremely patient and understanding with his excuses as to why it isn't complete. But when it comes down to it, I paid him over $1,000 and IMO it should be done by now. Can anyone help me compose something that isn't a total rant? TIA!!

Re: Any one still waiting on your wedding video?

  • We didn't get a video, but we are still waiting on our album.  It's partly our fault because we took a few weeks asking for changes on the proofs, etc., before we'd approve the design.  But, still, I feel like we should have them by now.  She's trying to get it to us before Carter is born.

Anyhow, have you checked in with him/her at all?  If not, I would just send a quick note and ask nicely for status and go from there.

  • Did the videographer give you a timeline of when you should expect it?  If he did and it is outside of that timeline you deserve some answers.  I would definitely contact him.  If you want to proof your e-mail here before sending I am sure lots of us will help!

  • We're still waiting on ours as well. The big print on the contract said 120 days from the wedding - then we checked the fine print. "...could take up to 1 year from the date of your wedding." I don't remember reading that, and if I'd known, I never would've signed. This is just flat ridiculous. At least she knows I'm pi$$ed, and has been sending me updates, so we should have the proof soon - just in time for our wedding to be totally over, as well as the excitement.
  • I have been in contact with him ever few weeks since December. He told me it would be done in January and then in March and then on April 27th he said that "college graduation is coming up and has been hindering things a bit." I would have to go back and look for my contract and honestly I am not even sure where it would be, I think I know but who knows.

I am thinking I want to start like this, "Can you please give me and update on our video? I feel that I have been more than patient and understanding witht he delays but it has now been over 7 months since our wedding."

I don't know where to go after that.

  • I think shorter is better...so you don't go off on a rant (like I probably would end up doing!).  Just leave it at that, and see what he says.  If he gives you another date in his response, ask him if that date is guaranteed, as you have already been promised three other dates in the past.

  • I still don't have mine.  We were supposed to send pics for the montage right after the honeymoon and I just didn't do it.  I finally sent them to him the second week of March and he told me we'd have the video in 4-6 weeks.  Yea.  It's been about 9 weeks and I still don't have it.  I guess he's doing to me what I did to him.... except I paid $1500 for his effn services!!! Angry
  • We got our video around xmas but we are still waiting on our album.  We approved the design in the beginning of March.  Where the eff is it???????

We didn't do a video because we couldn't afford it but after the fact I kind of wished we had; however, if I had paid what you paid for one, omg, you better believe I'd be calling every couple of days at this point.  7 months after the wedding is ridiculous!  I understand they take a while to edit, but major movies get edited in less time than that.  I'd say something like...

"I wanted to check in to find out the status of our wedding video.  It has now been over 7 months since our wedding which I feel is more than a fair amount of time for you to provide it to us.  You were paid in a timely manner for your services and I expected to have our final product in a timely manner as well.  This is the # time I've asked for an update and you have only provided me with dates that come and go.  Can you please let me know the exact date as to when I can expect to receive our final video?  Thank you in advance for your immediate response."

Then again, I track down missing files all day long and nag people to death on the phone so I don't have much patience for this kind of delay.

I like this and if you can find your contract and see if it has a timeline in it add that.  I am guessing though that there is not a guaranteed date unfortunately so that he can get away with things like this.

I don't think there is a date but rather a time line in the contract, so I went ahead and used Xan's wording and sent the email. I have been extremely nice to this point, but this is getting ridiculous. I will let you know his response, who knows when I will get one though. UGH!! Angry

If it were me, I'd give him two business days to respond, so the rest of today and then Tuesday since Monday is a holiday for most people.  If you do not hear anything by Wednesday morning, I would send another email or make a phone call.  I'd be a bit more b*tchy in the next one and give subtle hints implying that if you don't get your video by a certain date (I'd establish a deadline for him at this point if it's already way past the timeline in the contract) then you will call the BBB or seek legal action.  Whether or not you mean it doesn't matter, a little threat is sometimes all it takes.  In my job, I often say things like, "If I do not receive this by Monday, I will have to contact our lawyer to find out how we should proceed"  I don't even know who our lawyer is and they definitely wouldn't be bothered with my little claim, but it usually gets the job done.

I love threatening with a lawyer or small claims court, I have done it twice in the last year :) Thanks for your help Xan!
