no birthday party for two year old this year.
We decided not to through a birthday party for DD this year, and instead just buy her a few gift and bring cupcakes to her daycare. The reason is because we threw a very big birthday party for her last year, and it was very overwhelming also daughter was cranky and slept almost the entire time. I remember having to blow out her candles, and not to mention it was very expensive. Although we recieved alot of gifts for her we just would rather spend the money buying what she needs and avoid the hassle of another "big" birthday party...at least not until she is old enough to appreciate it.

I am a big fan of small immediate family parties for the very little ones.
You are right: save the larger guest lists and bigger parties for when she's older; I vote for first grade and up.
Completely understand. We had big parties (a lot of family, friends) for DS & DD's first b-days, and will do smaller pizza/cake/ice cream with the grandparents & godparents for other non-milestone years. Both DH and I grew up in families that celebrated this way.
I did the parties for 1 and 2 with DS. By his thrid b-day I was D.O.N.E. We brought cake to playgroup and called it a day!
Now he is 3.5 and already had big plans for his 4th birthday (he has gone to friend parties and figured out that you get presents, lol). So enjoy it while it lasts!
You're being smart. I don't like the whole "big party" ritual, which seems so overdone.
