So I work as an advisor at a university here in New Orleans. I really enjoy my job as I can help people progress with their education. However I am getting grief because this guy with 6 transfer credits is insistant that he receive 9. He's located at another campus and has dealt with the advisor there who decided to take today off so I'm stuck dealing with him. What is it that makes people automatically feel they are entitled to something? If your transcript says 6 and it's from a community college and you are trying to transfer to a 4-year university, what makes you think we would give you more than the credit you earned (nothing against community colleges, I think they're great, but yeah)?
Re: Need to vent
Ugh, I can see why you are frustrated! Hopefully you have a 3-day weekend to relax and get it off your mind!

I get why you're frustrated BUT I get why he's frustrated as well.
I transferred to a 4 year with my AA and was told after my 1st semester at said 4 yr college that I had to take Gen Ed classes for freshman (as a junior) because my credits weren't transferring from the community college. It was really frustrating having to deal with that when I knew I had my AA and therefore all the freshman & sophomore classes should've transferred yet my 4 yr college was saying they hadn't. (BTW I was right and they didn't make me retake Gen Ed classes.)
This guy could very well be wrong, I don't know. He could, on the other hand be right.
Either way, I'm sorry you and he are having issues about it. Enjoy your weekend and deal with it on Tuesday.
It seems pretty cut and dry to me. If the community college transcript says 6, he's lucky to get 6. If the transcript is wrong, then his problem is with the community college, not with the university.
I took classes at an online university to help me change fields, and none of them counted. But, I knew coming in that my university didn't guarantee that they'd accept transfer credits, and they don't have to. Besides, if I really learned what I was supposed to from the online school, it wouldn't have been so hard the second time around. Yes, I doubled paid for to take the same class, but I learned more- shouldn't that be what it's about?
