church question...

i was considering going to back to church with k.  we're roman catholic.  the church we used to go to got rid of their kid room.  does anyone have any suggestions of a church in the area that still has a kid room or children's mass?

Re: church question...

  • We go to church every weekend and have since A was 3 weeks old.  We don't have a kid room or a children's mass, we just go to the regular mass.  Most Priests are just happy that you are there, they don't mind if children are making noise.  At least that is what our Priest has always said.  Oh and I usually bring some quiet toys (ie: books, and a stuffed monkey) for her to play with, I also have cheerios and a sippy cup for her, just in case.

  • Our church does a mass that is more geared for children but there is no so called childrens room, during the Our Father they always bring the children up on the alter to say it with them. Also once and awhile the Monsignor at our church uses monkey puppets to say his homily so that it is more on a children friendly level and they can understand what he is talking to them about, usually one of the other priests go behind the curtain and does the voice of the puppet.

  • We go to Grace Community Chruch on 94 in Washingtonville. They have kids rooms and "classes" every service (Sat $ Sun). We take the boys there every weekend and they love it and so do we. Google them and check 'em out. PS: I was raised RC and the services @ Grace are totally different, but I love it!

  • We got to St. Matthews in hastings and they do a 9am kids mass.. Only danger is the priest asks them questions and you are never sure what they may say.  But it is a cute mass. For easter they had easter eggs out on the front lawn and each child was allowed to take an egg.  They even put out blow up lawn decorations for the holidays.

  • Both St John's in Goshen (9am) and St Columbas in Chester (10:30) have childrens masses.  Neither has a separate room, though.  I've never been to the one at St Johns but I like St Columbas.  They dont do anything special really; there are just a lot of kids and no one cares if they make noise.

  • I have been going to Sacred Heart in Newburgh.  Not sure if there is a children's room but sad to say I am not happy with the service on one priest in particular.  I've heard St. Mary's in Newburgh is nice but have not tried it yet. Let me know if you find a church you like.
