Which Tamron lens do you have?  I have decided that while I love my 50mm, I really do need a zoom lens.  Well, I have my kit lens but you know, I need another zoom lens :P  Umm, but Mr.Jason has put a halt on anymore photography purchases for me.  But still, I like to have a wish list!

Are you happy with that lens?  Is there another lens that you wished you had bought instead?

Re: K8

  • I have the f/2.8 28-75 and I would never give it away :-) I love it. It's a great walk-around lens. It's definitely my Disney lens, and I use it a lot just at home and such, too. 90% of the time, I either have that lens or my 35 on my camera. The ONLY complaint I have about that lens is that it's heavy compared to any of my other lenses. I can definitely feel the difference when I've been carrying it around all day as compared to a lighter lens. (It's not so heavy that I wouldn't recommend it though.) And I'm sure the Nikon version is better and sharper, but at almost 2K, I'd say it's out of my price range. Wink

The other zoom lens I have is the Nikon cheap-o 55-200. With a variable ap of 4.5 -5.6, it's pretty useless indoors, and I honestly don't pull it out very often. However, I took it to Fort Desoto beach last week (pics on blog), and I was pretty happy with it. It was sharper than I thought (I used it in combination with a polarizing filter). As long as there's a whole lotta light, then it's not a bad lens at all. This lens is dirt cheap (as lenses go) and it's really, really light. I would never, ever recommend this lens over the Tamron, but it's a decent tool to pop in your bag at a good price. Make sure you get the VR version, if you get this one.

I've also been eyeing the Nikon 70-300. I just think that long range could be fun, but I have NO experience with it. If I were to do it over, I might consider skipping the 55-200 and get this one instead, but I have no idea. Work has one that I should get to borrow soon, though, and if it's as light as the 55-200, I might sell the 55 and get this instead.  Not sure.

Another one I'm looking at is the f 2.8 70-200, but I have no idea if the Tamron version or the Sigma version is better, and I seriously doubt I could ever afford the Nikon version. That lens is a looooong way off (if ever), but I might look at it if I were considering a new zoom. But I think the 28-75 might have more of a "general" purpose, and the 70-200 might make a better portrait lens. I think that the 70-200 is super heavy, though, so that's something to consider.

Keep in mind that I really have no idea WTF I'm talking about, and definitely ask for opinions on the photog board. Those ladies are much smarter about all this camera stuff Stick out tongue
