Anyone ever donated bone marrow before? DH got called today about being a match for someone who needs a bone marrow transplant. In 1996 he was put into the registry by the Army. He explained to the lady that called that he has had pretty significant surgery in the last year but otherwise was in good health. He is going to go get more bloodwork done tomorrow.
I have been searching online about what to expect but I just wanted to see if anyone has any personal experience.

Re: Bone Marrow donation?
Close to personal experience. I was supposed to donate to my brother, but he passed away the night before the transplant.
I had to had significant bloodwork, I had to donate blood to myself in case of a transufusion need, and I had to have a bone marrow aspiration before the transplant. I took versed for the aspiration to minimize the discomfort.
Not sure if the protocol has changed since I was a teenager, but...
I would have been put under general anesthesia and they would have harvested the marrow from my upper hip/butt (same as the aspiration, but multiple sites). I would have been in discomfort after the surgery, but nothing horrendous. My brother would have received the marrow in an IV.
