Storage bins

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm looking to finally organize our holiday decorations as well as cleaning out/storing my mom's belongings (she lived with us, but due to medical issues is now in a nursing home. Can't get rid of her stuff as she may end up in assisted living at some point, but want to reclaim use of her room).

Thoughts on where to buy storage bins in bulk or inexpensively?  I have plenty of cardboard boxes, but for potential long-term storage in our basement, I'd prefer bins.  I plan to use my label-maker on the outside for the various holidays and to create inventory lists for my mom's stuff. (So if she requests something, I can find it relatively easily).

Re: Storage bins

  • Check the sales ads for Target, WalMart,etc...After Christmas we got some red and green storage bins for a steal! But for now, just check your local ads.
  • If you have a membership to one, you might be able to find them at your local warehouse club store (Costco, Sam's Club, etc.).

Also check out the ads for Lowes & Home Depot.  You may even find a good sale during Memorial Day weekend.
  • Also if you are comfortable using it-Craigslist is a great place for getting them. I live near a college and tons of students are selling theirs off right now.

I also agree with looking at ads, and home improvement stores for the holiday weekend

  • Big Lots has storage bins that are pretty inexpensive.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions!  I bought a few on sale at Target and plan to get some more as I need them.
