Extreme Couponing

TLC has been showing a marathon since 4.

I have been watching and making DH nervous.  He already have a love/hate relationship with my current coupon habit, although he loves the savings.

But no one needs that many toothbrushes or dental floss.  And diapers, but no kids, donate them.

At least some people are shopping and donating their stuff.

Re: Extreme Couponing

  • I think its crazy and a waste of money. You don't really save money you just spend it on a life time supply of things that wont run out:)

  • I've been flipping back and forth from that to other things on TV. One of my friends from home just tried her hand at it last week and did pretty good.

Personally, I have never used a single coupon in my life... so I'm guessing I would kind of suck at it, haha. Although, the amount of stuff they get for less than 10 bucks is intriguing-- I just don't have the patience for it.

It does make me sad that these people buy so much for so little, stock it all in their garage, and don't think twice about donating to those in need. Glad to see some of them do!

I would actually have to disagree on the dont really save money part. Have you seen their totals? Most of these people are getting several hundred's of dollars worth of stuff for less than $10. Blows my mind! (I do think it's crazy though, lol)

  • I mean if I need deodorant and i can get a stick for free, why not.  But I'll never need 40 at one time.

I make out pretty well stacking target coupons with manufacturer coupons.

  • DH is watching nascar (BLECH) but saw this on my screen and flipped over to it.  It makes me anxious just watching them.

That's awesome! One that we were just watching had a guy who got almost $5,000 worth of Total brand cereal and donated to a local food bank. Before he said we was donating it, my jaw dropped at someone buying THAT much cereal in one trip, lol

Yeah, you're not going to use them all at the same time, but if you don't stockpile then couponing isn't going to reap the big savings for you. I tried it last month and this month, and so far I've spent what I usually spend per month on house items (toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc.) but saved 60% on them, so I got 60% more than what I would have otherwise. I think you can still get a decent stockpile going after a year if you're patient and only spend $40/month.

  • We were watching this yesterday too. I find it crazy how much stuff they get. Do you really need 62 bottles of mustard? I love to use coupons and am a little obsessed about it, but these people make me look sane.

  • I'm bumping this to tell a LOL story.

So yesterday we went to Target to get some things and some deals w/coupons.  I've been a bit all over the place w/us not in our bathroom, so I'm not as organized as normal.  I bought face wash b/c I'm almost out.

I will say I saved about $25 in coupons at Target.

Today we hit CVS after Father's Day Breakfast and I spent $15 after saving $23.  But as I was putting everything away, I realized that DH now has 4 bottles of shampoo!  He's set for quite awhile now.
