So we're in the market for a playset/swingset. Anyone been through this and have any suggestions or recommendations? I am totally overwhelmed! Do we buy cheaper and just expect it not to last as long and for the boys to outgrow it sooner or buy pricier and expect it to last forever and then possibly sell? Help
Re: Playsets
We just went through this! We did a LOT of research and shopping around before making our decision. We went into it knowing that we wanted to buy something that would last a long time and that this was going to be a signifcant purchase so we didn't want to cut corners. Our must haves were: fun treehouse with large platform and wood roof, fun slide, and glider along with swings. We ended up going with this one from Menards:

And of course because my DH can't do anything normally he had to "customize" it to better fit our yard so of course there were some bumps in the road when he was building it and it seemed to take forever! We also did not inclue the part with the monkey bars because it seemed like a sure ticket to the ER for our little Ella!
It took a lot of time but oh my goodness was SO worth it. Ella absolutely loves "her park" as she calls it and there are neighbor kids over here every night playing too. She loves to run back and forth on her bridge and I love that there are lots of different options-2 slides, 3 climbers, 2 treehouses, steering wheel, telescope, picnic bench, swings and glider. Good luck with your decision!
I know All-HIs and Mrs. Reem just got playsets too so I am sure they will have good input as well!
You can take the big ones back apart if you need to move them. It's not idea but it could be done. I'd probably buy once and have it over with but I can see arguments for both options.
I told my mom that we wanted something where neither the slide, nor the steps were near the swings. (Katen is a daydreamer) and it had to have a glider. I knew the girls both loved that from playing at backyard adventures. (great place to see what your kids do and don't like by the way. $5 for your oldest and free for the younger child.) I also wanted a wooden roof but my mom surprised us with our set and it ended up with a tarp -like one. I think I may like that okay though because I'd like to (next season) find my own cute material and customize the tarp a bit. (I see it fading/tearing, etc.)
We ended up with the Adventure Playsets "Pathfinder" model. It's very reasonably priced. $500 The thing I'm seeing about this less expensive model is that the wood is sturdy but softer so that it dents more easily. I don't mind that much, but something harder might be nice too. I'll also say that while building the tower, the wind caught it and toppled it over. Once the swings are attached this shouldn't happen but it's that light.
