Hi ladies,
My most recent reads are
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Housseni (loved it)
The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson (also loved it-- nonfiction study of the history of diagnosing psycopaths)
Bossypants by Tina Fey (so funny, and a fast read)
Cinderella Ate My Daughter by Peggy Orenstein (a must read for any moms with daughters)
I Thin I Love You by Allison Pearson (a light but well-written romantic comedy)
What have yall been reading?? I need a new book! TIA!
Re: books recommendations?
Faithful Place by Tana French (a mystery I saw recommended from NPR. I really liked it).
Right now, I'm alternating between Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential (I'm like a decade behind, lol), and Blue Bistro by Elin Hilderbrand. Blue Bistro is a good beach read, but the type that doesn't insult one's intelligence (like so many chick lit books/beach reads).
And I want to italicize the titles, but Chrome apparently doesn't like the Nest. Rahh.
I just read "The Help" (wanted to read it before the movie came out!) - I enjoyed it.
Next up is "A Visit From the Goon Squad"... I read the Sample chapter on my Nook, and it seems like it will be pretty good!
After that I think I'll read "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks."
I just finished Race to Splendor by Ciji Ware. I picked it up b/c I liked the cover, and it sounded interesting. I ended up loving it! It's about the rebuilding of two hotels in San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake by female architects. One of them is real, Julia Morgan who rebuilt the real-life Fairmont hotel and the other is a fictional friend & colleague of Morgan's, Amelia Bradshaw who rebuilds the hotel formerly owned by her family, the Bay View.
