Who do you use?

For car insurance?

We are shopping around. We currently have USAA, and they're wonderful. But after DH's accident in March, our rates obviously went up since he totaled his vehicle and he thinks we should shop around for better rates.

I really think we'll be hard pressed to find anyone better than USAA though.

Re: Who do you use?

  • State Farm Mutual.  I've been with the same agent since I was 18.  We can't find it any cheaper--but we have auto, home, and my jewelry policy all bundled together which helps.
  • We had Liberty Mutual for the longest time (DH liked that we could have a policy good for a year instead of 6 months) but when we bought the house twg was suggested to us and they were cheaper than anyone we found.  The guy we used was Jeff but lately the emails have been coming from someone else.

  • I use progressive.  I've had them since I was 18 years old and never had any issues with them.  I pay $126 for just me.
  • DH had state farm before we got married, and we switched him to USAA when we got married because we got a better rate than State Farm quoted us.

So far this morning I've called Progressive, Geico, and NationWide and they've all been at least $40-50 more/month than what we're paying now.

We also bundle with our renters insurance.

I'm almost at a loss for what other companies to try.

That's high!  I pay that for DH and myself, on 2 cars through Allstate. Well, $130 for both of us.

PS - We use Allstate.  :)

However, we  have a motorcycle policy through Geico, and they quoted us $100/month for both of us, with more coverage.  We may be switching!

    Allstate, forgot about them.

I know, I've always had high insurance and never really understood why because I don't have anything on my driving record at all.  I think it's the cars I've had and low deductible combined with high coverage.

  • We use State Farm and bundle our renters and personal article policy through them and get multi-line, multi car and good drivers discount.
  • We don't have cars but our house is through Allstate.

My parents have USAA, and I can honestly tell you I don't think there is anything better out there than them.    Even if the premium turned out to be slightly higher, their service is amazing.

It is my understanding (from rental car) that all insurance companies share a network of information and all of them will see your DH's wreck and quote appropriately.   It may not help to switch at this point.

  • DH used Geico and his is pretty cheap.  He wants me to switch, but I'm very hesitant.

I've been with State Farm since I started driving so I get a discount for that plus all kinds of other discounts.  I have my car, house and personal article property with them.  I'm a loyal customer so it will be very hard to switch.

We don't use USAA, but I completely agree with Tiffany.

We have a bundle package through all state for our house and 2 cars; I carry higher coverage on my Mercedes, but for our 2 cars combined we pay $117 a month.

This is what I keep trying to tell DH. I've been with them for 10 years now, because my stepfather is a veteran. DH just joined this last year because we got married.

But, I'm "shopping around" for DH.

Make sure it was State Farm MUTUAL.  I think that makes a difference.

Ok, thanks Stephie. I'll keep that in mind.

  • We have Traveler's.  We pay $154/month for 3 cars.  We have a bundle package with the house and my ring rider. Not sure how much that is because it's paid through escrow but I know that for the 3 cars that is the best price we could find and my sister works for State Farm.

From 16 until a few months ago, I used Geico and I love how helpful and quick to respond they are.  Plus, they work with Service King and my family has gotten their cars back within a week to ten days after recent accidents.  I miss them.  Bill decided that his fly by night company (I had never heard of them before) was better.

  • We use USAA and wouldn't dream of switching, however their customer service has been slightly off the past year.
  • We have Progressive. Didn't go through an agent, went directly through Progressive. Got the quote online. We pay $108/month, for full covereage on TWO vehicles (a Ford Escape and Dodge Ram)

  • I definitely need to do some research on my insurance after reading all of this!
  • I appreciate all your input!

It looks like after my research I've convinced DH that USAA is really the best around and we are sticking with them! Thank goodness! I didn't want to leave, just had to convince DH. ;)
