What did you guys do for the 1st birthday party?  I want to do a "Under the big top" theme for DS and I had initially thought I'd inquire renting out the pavilion at the park near our house, but now I'm wondering if that's too much.  If I did the park we would invite all of DH's family, my family, and all our friends which could be about 60 people.  I figured we would BBQ and have everyone bring a dish to share.  I also want to put no gifts on the invitation.

But, then I think maybe I should just do immediate family and close friends and have it in our backyard.  Blahhhh I don't know what to do...

Also, if you've bought packages off of etsy that are digital files, where did you print all the signs and decorations?  Did you just use cardstock?  How did they turn out?

  • I refuse to answer because LO is not yet 1 year. I still have 2 weeks.

    Awww...wishing time would slow down?

  • We are renting a tent & tables and chairs.  Our yes list is up to 60.  Party is on Saturday.  We are having it in our backyard.

I designed my own digital files.  I printed through Shutterfly.  They were a pain in the a$$ to deal with and f*cked up the invites.  Next time I'm printing at Costco.  Decorations I made myself with my Cricut.  I have details in my blog if you are interested.

If you have specific questions just shoot me a PM.

    Seventh Anniversary

For Emma's first birthday, we had a fairly small party with about 20 of our close friends and family.  I might have had something bigger, but the condo that we were in at the time couldn't hold too many more people and her birthday is in November.

  • We did a loose "monster theme"  Nothing to themey because he is the youngest one and we didnt have other small children there.  It was mostly adults so it would have been kind of pointless.  I made him a monster cupcake though and his invites had monster files from etsy.  We rented out the clubhouse at our condo.  We cut a lot of people off of our guest list, and still had about 25- 30 people.  It was probably for the best because we didnt really do anything (because of the no young kids).  We had lunch, cake and openend presents.

The digital files I got from etsy I was able to print on his invites as pictures from meijer (because they were the only ones I found to print matte).  Then I glued the pictures to a piece of cardstock to make it thicker.  I imagine if you wanted to print them as decorations you could use kinkos or office max or something....but I'm not sure.

  • We are having Morgan's party at a park in about 3 weeks. I was originally going to go with the ladybug theme, but decided not to go to with a theme. We are just doing a mixture of girlie stuff and beach stuff. We invited about 60 people but I come from a large family. The plan at the beginning was to grill, but I didn't want someone tied to the grill all day so we are just going to order chicken and a party sub with a few side salads and a fruit and veggie tray.

I ended up making my invites on powerpoint and then sending them to print at walmart. It was a trial and error, but I work right across the street from one so me sending a few copies and picking them up at lunch to see how they turned out wasn't so bad.

As far as decorations, I plan on just picking stuff up at the store, which is on my long list of things to do this week...

  • For Noah's birthday, we had about 50 people.  It was mostly adults, so we didn't go too crazy with a theme.  How is your DS with big crowds?  I'd let that dictate if you do a huge party or not.  I know it's hard not to go crazy with a big party, but for DS, he really didn't like that much commotion.  He ended up skipping his nap and played shy for most of the day, so he really didn't enjoy the party at all.

I'll just quote this, since it's pretty much my answer as well. LOL. We're having ours at a park. We're going to order chicken and might grill hot dogs. Family is bringing some sides and we'll order the rest (pasta salad, veggie tray, etc.) I don't have a theme. I made the invitations myself and printed them at Staples. I'll eventually get to Party City maybe this weekend to get a few decorations.

Good point.  I didn't think about that.  He's a big ham so I'm sure he would do alright around a bunch of people.

Oh my gosh - that stuff you made is so cute!  I scrapbook, but I don't have the Cricut machine.  I wish I had the ability to make the stuff like you did!

  • For Landon's first birthday we had a circus theme. We have a really nice community center that is FREE : ) and since his birthday is in Dec. we had it there. I rented a hotdog cart to have hotdogs/chili dogs and nachos. I also had a popcorn cart and a cotton candy machine. I had cupcakes that looked like popcorn and pop in a cup.

I also had a face painter. She was awesome!

I made the invite through vistaprint
