Would you guys order say a mini chandelier online without actually seeing it?
We just can't find one locally that we are looking for but dh really does not want to order one online because he thinks it is the type of thing that could easily come in and not look like we expected.
It's for the nursery but he feels this way with quite a few projects throughout the house so I was curious how often you guys might order fixtures or similar items without seeing in person.
Re: Decor poll
Well the bathroom light I posted on FB this weekend we ordered online, and while it was gorgeous, it was just too low. Our vanity lights we also ordered online and they are just as pictured.
The replacement one I ordred online sight unseen. We just made sure to check dimensions b/c pictures can be deceiving.
Just an idea but have you maybe looked into re-doing a chandelier from a thrift store or the habitat restore? That's what I did with my office one, got one for $8 from the restore and just added some spraypaint.

I probably would, depending on the return policy - just in case. I sooo wanted a chandelier in the nursery if C had been a girl.
Shaina just gave me the idea to do it in my next home office
LOL I was juuuuust saving addresses for various antique stores in the area. Scott said the wiring side of it makes him nervous and he would just rather buy new and not have to worry about rewiring or getting an electrician.
I am beating this to death a little because now he is leaning towards putting in a regular light and just doing a chandelier when we decide what we want to do. I know us and I know that will mean we just might not ever do it.
Freaking nest ate my post!
Anyways, the light I got at the restore, was a modern light, just brass. So the wiring was already done. It honestly took some spraypaint, a few pieces from the lighting department, like those white tube covers and DH was able to hang it.

I totally forgot about the restore and jumped right on the antique stuff.
I have to look into what we have in our area now.
I may just order one anyone and not tell him. LOL
Well if the light has reviews, then you can see what others say. Overstock has some really nice lights.
Also IKEA has a couple cute chandeliers, if there is one near you.

i was super close to ordering one online without seeing it in person but then i switched to putting a fan up instead b/c i wanted to leave it on all the time in her room.
regarding the rest of the house, i ordered a rug form overstock that i was unsure about because i couldn't see it in person and i am IN LOVE with it. i usually don't mind as long as i don't have to pay crazy shipping to return it or i can return it in store.
i also second the ikea suggestions. i got an adorable lamp for her room from there. it's one of my favorite things and it was like $10. LOL

I always have liked this one from Ikea:

We do have an Ikea somewhat near us, I wasn't a big fan of what I had seen online (I do need to go for lamps though).
We have lower ceilings (in a quad) so it really does have to be a mini (that was the reason we took out the ceiling fan out actually. (We have a house fan that works great plus air so we weren't too worried).
I am just having the hardest time not finding something to fru-fru (not overly beaded or 'crystalled' up though I can take some of them off without it being noticed), viney would match the theme but isn't a requirement, at this point I can go light or dark with it I think, and still a mini. I have a few bookmarked at home but that is where dh comes into play. LOL
I told him I am ordering a rug I think so he will have to deal with that.
Can't wait to see pics of the room
I can't wait to actually start the darn room! Scott has gotten so caught up in finishing the doors in our house that the nursey paint job took a backseat. We told ourselves it was fine until the shower then we would jump in. We were suppose to paint this weekend but never go to it because of all the yard work we needed to get done. MIL keeps asking dh to do stuff for her too and that is putting a major crimp in some of our/his projects.
So far what I do know, it will be friendly yellow from SW, the colors will be yellow with green & pink accents(mostly green) here and there. I am not going nutty with bedding at all. I was going to do a white tree with cherry blossoms floating over the crib but dh wants a brown tree now (he said with the blossoms it's less creepy than he thought it woudl be and that the white won't show as well against the yellow) a few flower decals coming up from the molding, the chandelier and a small lamp for the tall dresser. I am looking for a yellow, green & pink rug & found one through PBK that I love but dude at $300 I am still looking elsewhere (again trying not to be to fru-fru but flowery at the same time is biting in me in the rear, it may sound crazy to go light but the flooring is really dark). I also saved several dried yellow roses from the shower to put in a frame some where in the room. It's tiny in there so I can't get too crazy.
I'm with you on the rug, why would anyone spend a bunch of money on a rug that is going to be pooped on, thrown up on and god only knows what else on. There was one girl on D&R who dropped like $250 on a rug, in a nursery.
Check JCP, overstock and home decorators for some affordable options. Also our DR rug came from Lowes and was like $100 for a 5x7.

I need to double check Lowes, we did look at a few at HD but the selection was pretty sucky. I forgot about JCP, overstock was so-so on the rugs but def one or two I could live with. 5 x 7 is just what I am looking for (I think I still have to tape it down to be 100% sure)
OMG some people get sooooooo nutty about their nursery it is crazy what they will spend. I suppose if you have tons of money sure but we have plenty of other things to spend it on.
