Does anyone have Verizon FIOS?

We are moving into our new place in a few weeks so I'm starting to set up utilities, cable, etc. We've always had Comcast but blech - not a huge fan of them. I looked into FIOS and the pricing is a bit better but I know nothing of the service and quality or anything.

Does anyone have FIOS or know someone with FIOS? Opinions?

Have it, love it. We are an all Verizon household so all our services are on 1 bill and it is so nice to pay one and done.

  • We have FiOS and are generally happy with the service itself.  We've had a few Internet outages here and there and even a couple of brief cable outages, but nothing terrible.  We've also had Comcast and RCN in the past and I guess I like FiOS marginally better.

What I hate with a passion is their billing department. We don't have a landline so we don't have the typical bundled package, plus we got a promotional discount for the first year.  Well for that entire first year we did not get a single correct billing statement and I was on the phone with them for about an hour each and every month--argh!  Now that our promo rate is over it looks like our bills are correct but it was so freaking frustrating to deal with them.

You should also be aware that you need to be available for the 6-8 hour block of time it takes to install the service.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Have it and love it.  We have no complaints.

One thing you need to check is that it's available in the town you're moving to.  It's not available everywhere (sorry if you already checked and know it is).

And Rock is right - they give you a 6-8 hour time frame for install and set up, but ours only took 3-4 hours.

  • Thanks ladies! I think we're going to give FIOS a try. It ends up being a little cheaper and everyone I ask seems to say to go with it. We do have verizon cell phone service - will we just get a combined bill? That would be nice

I don't think they'd do that without you asking, but when you are setting up service you can ask them about making it the one bundle.

  • ditto MrsC - I think you have to ask to have your cell phone included on the bill, but the rest (assuming you get a bundle) will be on one bill (ours is Phone, TV, Internet)

  • we have had FIOS for the past 3 years. love it! never had an internet or tv outage (current crazy weather excluded) can not live with out my dvr! i do remember we had to ask that they send us a bill, and not automatically charge our CC.the install technician we had when we set up wasn't the brightest. he insisted that my computer get hooked up directly to the modem. told him we were setting up a wireless, and he was puzzled. Luckily dh is a comp nerd and i could ask the tech to leave it alone!

the only complaints... On Demand is sucky, that's the 1 thing Comcast did right. and now that we have a land line, we get a crap ton of telemarketing calls. and even some collections agents looking for the people we bought the house from!

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
