We're looking at getting a Goldendoodle puppy this summer. I'm pretty sure that is what you have. Any suggestions of breeders in the VA/MD/PA area? We live in N. VA and are willing to drive a few hours for the right puppy. Thanks!
Re: SweetCfly-Goldendoodle
not to be a loser, but i really want to know the answer to this.
i thought a golden doodle was just like a mix between a poodle and golden retriever, like a mutt? (not that mutts arent adorable, they are my favorites!). i didnt think they were allowed to breed and sell for higher prices unless it was an AKC certified breed?
clearly im not knowledgeable about that so tell me if im wrong!
and either way, theyre freaking adorable

Kim, you're right, they are not AKC certified. They are glorified mutts. All "designer dogs" are glorified mutts. I think the Labradoodle is actually close to becoming and AKC certified breed, I just read that somewhere. I am not sure about pricing. Since our dog is not AKC I'm not really sure what goes on with them/if they have rules about pricing. But I know that if there are rules they probably can't apply them to any -doodle, -poo-, -chon, etc. mix since they aren't AKC. And right now there are lots of doodles in shelters, I have been looking a lot on Petfinder... I think that will be where we get our next doodle. I'm definitely very pro-rescue; but I also don't see anything wrong with responsible breeding (not back-yard breeding or puppy mills).
Thanks for the info! Yeah i just worry about all of the backyard breeding stuff since thats VERY prevalent around here, especially for these puppy types like goldendoodles.
P.s. YAY RESCUE! I'd much rather save a pup in a shelter than buy one from somebody, mutt or pure bred
