With our last name starting with an "A", I struggle with names that end with "a"... my name does and I think it sounds funny with the two "a's" hitting each other. Is that something I should avoid or is it not a big deal?
For example (picking random names): Anna Alden ... Lisa Alden...
Re: Thoughts on names
I've never liked how my name sounded with the married last name... so I still struggle with it and probably think too much about it. I
I think A's tend to work together because they are pronounced with a "soft" stop.
Whereas something like my last name which begins with a B (ie Jacob Br...) sounds funny to me because you have to make a hard stop between the names.
I like the example you gave, and they flow
I will say this, my name was Crystal C. and a lot of times people called me C-C and I hated it. (I can't see that happening with A-A..) This is also vain, but on things that you put your initial on (embroidery, engraving, etc.) you always put first name-middle name and then the last name was in the front so it looked like CCJ, I hated that. I would always have it reversed, so it was C-C with the J in the center so it looked like CJC and two of the same letters weren't next to each other. (again that was me just being vain though) Since I dropped my middle and kept my maiden as my last I am CEC. Does that make sense?
I have the exact same issue Magda, and I know for a fact that I will veto any names ending in an "A" for future kids.
I do not like the way my name flows/sounds, not to mention it's a little porn-starry.
That's right, you do! I don't think your name is porn-starish but I understand that concern. I don't love my married name... I wish I did!
do people really get stuff embroidered/monogramed? often?
Its never occurred to me to think about our kids' initals other than to be sure they don't spell anything (eg, DUH or something silly like that).
I've gotten baby blankets and diaper bags monogrammed with the initials for gifts. I have jewelry that I bought myself and received as gifts with monogramming... but this may be more of a "southern" thing.
