disney vacation

We are looking into planning our disney vacation! I know some of you ladies have been and wondering if you could give me any tips? I have heard its best to book it as far in advance as possible? I also am not sure if we should go with a package deal or seperate? Any website that we should look into booking thru? I have obviously looked at the disney website, but I am sure there are others out there.

Re: disney vacation

  • I haven't been in forever.. though I wish I had!

I would post over on the travel board and search through a couple pages over there. Disney has been a big topic over there lately.

DH and I go to Disney frequently so much so that we own in the Disney Vacation Club.

I would suggest figuring out your budget, and then deciding which options are best. The package deals do save you a lot of money and staying on property has it's advantages. AllEars.net is a good resource and so is the mouse for less.

  • I'm not a huge Disney fan but on my trip to California we stayed at a Disney property and I had such a great time.  I absolutely loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat.  If it fits in your budget, stay on property, it was totally worth it for us.  Staying there and my whole experience definitely turned me into a Disney fan.  I can't wait to go back.

  • I have read about the disney visa. Does it have any major perks? Would you recommend it?

  • We're planning a trip right now!  I suggest going in the spring (my family went during spring vacation a couple times when I was younger) because I think everything is much less expensive and it's not quite so hot.

However, H and I are going in late July as part of a week-long vacation and we don't have a choice about the time (he has to go to LA for an exam).  We're poor students and can't afford the Disneyland resort package so we're staying in a local hotel.  I *almost* booked one of the "good neighbor hotels" through the Disney website (package deal with park hopper pass at a local hotel) until I decided to look it up on TripAdvisor at the last second and it had horrible reviews (I assumed wrongly that Disney checks that out...).  Anyway, I found a great deal for $103/night at a hotel that is rated #1 on TripAdvisor in Anaheim - Ayres Hotel.  It's not as close to Disneyland, but the shuttle (ART) is convenient and I'd rather stay somewhere that got good reviews.  Total price of hotel + 2 2-day park hopper passes was the same, minus the sketchy reviews ;)

We don't have kids though, so I guess you may want to be closer - although from what I remember, even if you stay in a hotel that's 'across the street', you still have to walk a lot and would probably end up taking the ART anyway.  Depending on when you're going I can post reviews when we get back :)

It has some perks, but nothing major. I wouldn't open another credit card if I didn't absolutely need it. There is a special Meet and Greet at Epcot that gives you a picture to put on your card, but that's about it.

passporter is a great site as well for planning.
