My brother mentioned last night that he would like to learn how to use a crock pot. Since he recently moved out and has a roomate, I thought I might get him one of those small 2 person crockpots and make some recipe cards for him too for his birthday that's coming up.
Anyone have any easy, cheap and man friendly (aka manly food) crock pot recipes they love?
Re: Crock pot recipes?
I know everyone does it but i have a different recipe for pot roast...pot roast, peppercini peppers, sliced onion, packet of italian dressing mix and heat together.
We normally pull the roast apart and eat with rolls.
I do beef sandwiches sort of like the roast above--a big beef roast, a can of beer, a can of beef broth, a jar of giardinera (the hotter the better, IMO), and a packet of Italian dressing. Let it go on low for 10-12 hours, and it practically shreds itself. I have a big crockpot, but I'm sure this could be scaled down.
I also do BBQ'ed boneless chicken thighs--meat, favorite bbq sauce, orange marmalade, and a little soy sauce. Right before serving throw in a little cornstarch mixed with water to thicken up the sauce, since it thins out. Again, this could be scaled down. I do 12-15 chicken thighs at a time.
Snuggle.
In addition to pot roast, I like making BBQ pulled pork. Just put in a pork roast and about a cup of BBQ sauce (you can also add a sliced onion). Cook it on low for 8-10 hours, then pull apart the meat with forks. I put the meat back into the sauce/juice to coat everything again. Doing it this way, the pulled pork is really yummy, but it's not super "saucy."
Also, when I bought my crockpot, it came with a recipe book...so that would get him started!
