wwyd: returning stuff from baby shower

we have over $150 in stuff we have never opened or used from our shower (stuff he can't use). would you create a wish list at BBR and return the stuff for store credit? or am i just horrible person and should suck up having useless baby products?

Re: wwyd: returning stuff from baby shower

  • Personally I hate the fact that BRU wants you to have a receipt just to get credit for the store.  I had so many people buy us stuff off registry from there that I didn't need and I was irritated that I couldn't return it so I added the stuff to his registry and then returned it for a store credit.  I see no need to hang on to stuff you're not going to use and I don't feel like it's getting one over on the store because the stuff actually came from their store so, I say, do what you gotta do.

  • this stuff is brand new never removed too
  • I haven't had any issues returning things not on my registry to BRU.  It has always been with something that was on it and it was a smaller item, so maybe that's why they were okay with it.  I say if you aren't going to use it, return it.  I haven't felt bad about anything I've returned from my showers.

i just feel weird because my shower was 6 months ago. but we just will never use the amount of bottles we kept because milo uses a cup if it isn;t direct from the spout.

  • Does Buybuy Baby have it?  They are usually better with returns without a reciept.  If your registry is still active at BRU, add it and then try to return it.  Worst case scenario is they wont take it and you are in the same boat you are now.  They don't know it was 6 months ago that you got them (maybe just don't bring milo with you lol).

  • I started a new wishlist so it's active made it private and put this stuff and the things I want to buy with the credit on it. I have one bottle set, two pairs of bottles, one diaper bag
  • Here's a nightmare that I encountered.  Granted, it was almost a year later.  I had stuff from his 1st bday that I know came from BRU w/o receipt.  I added it to his registry, they didn't want to return it, and the mgr went in back and came out telling me that I'd just added it, it was sneaky, and that she'd return it but never again.  I was mortified.  1) because I was being sneaky and she called me out and 2) she did it in front of a line of people.

So, maybe a smart person (not me obv) would put it on a wish list, then wait a few weeks and then return it.  Don't just put it on his registry.

O jeez I would be mortified too. I made a new wishlist letting it fester for a couple of days.
  • will BRU accept returns for partial credit without a receipt?  will BBB accept without receipt?

i guess I would just try to give stuff to friends/donations if I couldn't use the stuff.

bru will accept stuff on wishlists/registry if marked bought as the receipt, the shady thing is you can mark it bought. i mean this stuff is marked bought on my baby registry but it was 6 months ago.

if we cannot get the return it will just go ebay/goodwill but we are talking about a brand new 60 dollar diaper bag never used tags still on and a 44 dollar bottle set still sealed. so pretty pricey stuff.

I can't believe how unprofessional that was of the mgr...If it came from there it really shouldn't matter!

I say try to return the stuff if you can-it can't hurt!

It might not hurt to post the stuff you want to get rid of here (ala post-wedding stuff for sale) with so many moms expecting in the next several months.
