TTC? Resource...

We have been TTC since the wedding, without success.  It's seems as though I have now aquired a heightened sense for 'preggos' - and it's like I am the only one in the world who wants to be pregnant and isn't. Now, I realize that this is certainly NOT the case, but those of you who are TTC and have yet to be successful may understand this feeling...

That being said, today my good friend told me that she is expecting - which is fantastic news!! She has had a very rough go, and has undergone 2 surgeries re: fibroids etc and was initially told that she would most likely not be able to conceive, let alone carry to term.  Since her 2nd surgery last summer, she got the 'go ahead' and her and her DH started trying right after their wedding on Jan 1/11...so I am super pumped for her!

Getting to my point, I swear...we chatted for over an hour this afternoon about different advice, tips, methods, tricks, etc. that people have felt the need to 'share' with us during this process...this got me to thinking about what actually works, and is it enough just to have sex? (even with charting, apparently not...lol)

So she recommended a product Vitex.  I was doing a little research on it and stumbled upon this website: www.maximumfertility.com I ordered the e-book and so far have learned so much more (and I have only finished Chapter 3!) I don't know about the other product, but the e-book has really struck a chord with me so far, so I thought about my fellow Aug '10 Nesties who have been TTC and wanted to pass it along as an FYI.

I am going to try to incorporate some of the tips and see what happens this month...here's hoping that Month 10 will be the one!! :)

Re: TTC? Resource...

  • I am rooting for you!  We had success using OPK's.  I tried temping and couldn't get it right LOL but a smiley face was easy for me to "Get".  I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for all my AUG 10 nesties that are ttc.  It's a hard journey. Lot's of happy BFP thoughts heading your way!
  • What kind of tips have you learned?  Share please!  I'm waiting now to see if this cycle worked.  I should know in another week.  I'm not charting/opk-ing, but that's mostly because my body appears to be extremely regular.  I have a 2 day stretch around CD13/14 where I get headaches, EWCM, and then serious O pains.  Then 12 days later I start spotting and 2 days later I get my period.  So we're just having lots of sex before that time(CD13/14), and for a bit after, in case the pains are coming earlier than the actual ovulation.

    Good luck!

  • Have you guys looked at the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler???  I think it is very helpful is helping you learn all things fertility.  It also talks about charting your temps in the book.  I borrowed it from the library before I got my BFP.  Also there are online courses you can take through fertilityfriend.com that are quite helpful also.

If charting your temp is not your thing (even though I kind of enjoyed it - I only had to do it one month before getting my BFP, and it was really interesting to see the changes in my temp as my cycle went on)  I would definitley recommend using OPK's.  You can get them fairly cheap off of amazon.  I bought these and thought they worked great  http://www.amazon.com/Combo-Ovulation-Tests-Pregnancy-Strips/dp/B0002YIQLY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1306954356&sr=8-3 I got a positive on the OPK's on day 17 of my cycle, and got a BFP on the HPT on at 10 days past ovulation.

The only other thing I really did differently is that I took a generic form of mucinex (walmarts liquid form of cough syrup where guaifenesin is the only ingredient) starting on day 10 until O day.  I read that the expectorant guaifenesin is supposed to help thin out the cervical mucus (Just like it thins out nasal mucus) to help the sperm swim to where they need to go.  Not sure if it's just a old wives tale, but I figured I'd give it a try.

We tried to get pregnant for 6 months before we got our BFP.  I think one of the more important things to know is that NOT everyone ovulates on day 14 of your cycle.  Before I learned about charting and taking OPK's, I just assumed I was O'ing on day 14.  So we would have tons of sex leading up to day 14, get tired, and stop for the rest of the month.  When I started to look at my own fertility and into the signs of ovulation, I learned I was O'ing later in the month.  So even though we were doing it like rabbits, we were stopping before  the most important days of my cycle.  I guess it's just something to think about...

I really hope that you get your BFP soon!!!  It looks like it's time to pull out all the stops!  That's what we did.  I was tired of not getting anywhere so I decided that I was going to try whatever there was to try to help our chances, and it worked.  I hope nothing for the best for you guys!!

  • Thanks ladies! I have started using the OPTs last month, but I wasn't able to do them regularly for those days, so I never saw a positive...family weekend at my grandfather's kind of put a damper on the 'trying' and I figure this is most likely when I would have had my surge and could have maybe gotten pregnant. But alas, here we are again at the beginning of my cycle.

My period was 6 days late, which killed me! I had the BFN as soon as I was a day late, so I was hoping that maybe it was wrong, but of course not! BOOO! Now I have no idea when the O-ing will occur! So, we have our plan in place for the month (this sounds so technical - ug!) and DH is getting the sperm analysis next Thursday, so we are losing those 5 days :(...but hopefully the results will help us!

The e-book I bought also came with 9 other resources too...I haven't had a chance to look through them all yet though.  It ended up being $30.00 CDN for the whole deal, which I felt was fair!

Last night I read about the best times/positions and how to increase your chances immediately after the big finish (ha ha)...some of the stuff I had already heard about, but there were a number of things that I didn't necessay know about and/or were good to refresh on.  I think it was worth the purchase...let's hope it helps us to get our BFP!!

  • We have no desire for babies right now, but I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's such an interesting read - I recommend it for anyone. In a few years when we're ready for a baby, I will definitely go with the charting method.
