Gift Registry Judging

So I was just reading an article (clicky) from yahoo news about Tony Romo and Candice Crawford's wedding registry and it is Judgey with a capital J. Personally, based on what I read, it seems that the couple followed etiquette to a T with having a wide assortment of price ranges. What's your opinion?

Re: Gift Registry Judging

  • a guy that generally writes about sports really has no ground to stand on when talking about wedding registries.

I think they followed the rules.

  • I like that they registered normally...no 25,000 dollar dish or anything.  Ridiculous
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Yeah, that's a guy who couldn't find anything else to write about that day.

I agree that what they registered for was fine.  And if someone only had $10 to spend, I'm sure they thought it was nice that there was an option for them to get something the couple wanted.  Or maybe someone who wanted to spend $30 could get a few small gifts.

Ugh.  Of all the things to write about.

  • I totally agree!  Just because Tony's a millionaire doesn't mean all of his family and friends are.  It was nice that they had a normal registry.  Plus- just because they are millionaires doesn't mean they don't want a $15 cupcake holder or whatever or already own good pots.

  • I think that a) sports news must have been slow, b) the guy is an idiot, and c) the entire article was written so that at the very end he could write something about the NFL lockout.

There's nothing wrong with what they registered for.  If you are going to be judgey about anything with their registry, be judgey that they had a registry at all.  I find it in slightly poor taste for a millionaire to register for their wedding (since the whole purpose of a registry started out as a way to get a new couple set with things that they need, knowing that they usually start off with little cash).  But, at the end of the day, if a couple wants to register, let them register.  And if they are going to register, I would hope that they would follow registry etiquette and have something on there that everyone could afford.

  • Wow reading articles like that just make me angry.

If they hadn't registered people would have not known what to give them so I see nothing wrong with it. In addition, if they had registered for all high priced items they would have gotten slammed too. D*mned if they do d*mned if they dont. That's why I'd never want to be a celebrity.

The only thing I'm jealous of is that everything is marked as fulfilled :)

This. I'm guessing the author himself has never been married but more importantly has no idea of etiquette like some of you mentioned.

He!!, he comments on "normal" registry items like Calphalon pans for $500-something and a Dyson.  We had Calphalon pans on our registry and SIL registered for a Dyson.  With our households combined we probably barely make a fraction of what Romo makes.

And random tidbit:  My FG/RB's uncle is getting married at the same venue as Romo in August.

  • Given who the couple is, I don't think that is a ridiculous registry at all.  There were quite a few expensive items for their similarly rich friends, but lots of reasonable priced items for friends and family from modest means.  Having a variety of small priced items makes sense since people often go shopping with a budget (e.g. $100 = $80 item + $15 item + $5 item).  Just because they are millionaires doesn't mean that have to buy ridiculous priced items.  Perhaps that are smart and invest a lot of their money instead of blowing it on expensive crap (after all that football career won't last forever).  And that writer is a moron, they didn't register for tea lights, somebody bought them at same time they bought something else off of registry (want=0 has=1).  I'm jealous of the huge kitchen they must have to store all of that kitchenware!

I actually really like that they registered at 'every day' type stores and for things that are reasonable.  Just because they are loaded doesn't mean their family and friends are.  Khloe Kardashian pointed that out on her wedding special (that I've watched way more times than I care to admit); Kris was trying to get her to register for really expensive stuff but she didn't want to and she said, "None of my friends can even afford anything in this store!"  (Not in a snotty way)

As Erin said, the only thing I'm a little judgey about is that they registered at all but whenever people get invited to a wedding, they naturally want to take a gift, so they are just making it easier on their guests.  Plus not everyone with money is into super fancy stuff; if I am eating a grilled cheese I just want to put it on a simple plate, not fine china and I am sure they are the same way.

The writer of the story is ignorant; he mentioned a guys recipe book and said Tony requested it, but if you look at the registry, it wasn't on their list, someone just bought it for them and added it to the registry.

That is the only Kardashian episode I have ever seen...and the only reason we watched it was because Chris saw Lamar Odom, and thought it was sports related...then we got sucked in and watched the whole thing (and swore we'd never do it again).  Anyway, I remember her saying the same thing.

Also, since two of you saw things that the writer claimed they registered for but they actually did not, I'd say that's one more reason he should've found something else to write about.  If you don't know how registries work, perhaps you should either do your research, or stick with sports.

And a grilled cheese isn't fancy???
