WWYD: alterations ruined dress

I took a dress for a simple alteration - I needed the sleeves taken up a half inch on each side. I had had good experiences with them in the past.

This, however, is a hatchet job. The sleeves are uneven, seams are visible, and there was even thread hanging out.

I am asking for the cost of the dress plus the cost of alterations in reimbursement. Any particularly good negotiation tactics? What I want to do is pitch a fit, but that's not productive.

Re: WWYD: alterations ruined dress

  • Ugh, that sucks. I think what you're asking is reasonable. Either that or they need to fix the alterations, assuming that's even possible.

  • IF you have the receipt for the dress, bring it with you.  If not, I would print out a like dress with the price.  I would also ask for the cost of the alterations.  That is absolutly awful!
  • Are the current alterations beyond repair? First, I'd go in asking for them to do exactly what you asked, then I would ask that they pay for the cost of the dress. Honestly, I don't know how successful you'll be with that, though.
