Mom's with 2

Just wanted to see if you have any "pointers" for me since Carson should be here at any time.. ( please let it be sooner than later!)

I still cant believe im gonna be a mom of 2... aah!

Re: Mom's with 2

  • Take help when it's offered.  Ignore the chores.  Hire a housekeeper (ha!  I wish we could right now).  I'm gonna be all cliche and say "sleep when the baby sleeps" but do it.  I didn't at first, I know how it is - there is stuff that needs to be done (chores - see above - pics to unload from the camera - ha!! - and then that pesky stuff like eating and showering etc etc etc) but you have to ignore it all and sleep when you can.  It is beyond exhausting have two little ones.  Try to enjoy your hospital stay.  As long as #1 is cared for at home, enjoy the time you have alone with #2.

The most important tho:  remember your #1.  Give #2 to daddy and spend some time with #1.  If you're nursing the baby, spend that time reading books to #1, doing puzzles, coloring, whatever you can do with #1 while you nurse (or even while bottle feeding).  It's hard to get caught up in caring for the newborn when his/her needs are so many - you sometimes forget that your toddler (who is pushing for her independence as is!) is still just a baby, too and needs you just as much.  This is something I have to remind myself of every day - she's still a baby - she needs attention and help just as much.

I can't think of anything else. Just go with the flow.  Don't get stressed over routines, etc etc.  I feel so much more comfortable with every aspect of caring for a newborn this time around.  I'm still struggling with caring for BOTH, but dude having two under two and being a SAHM is hard work.  I got stuck in a routine of never leaving the house because it's so much work with both of them - but with my magical new and wonderful toy (a double jogging stroller lol) life is suddenly easier.

Oh and don't be shy when you are out in public.  I am unapologetic when I go to Target or the grocery.  Yep - I need two grocery carts (one for the kids and one for the groceries) or yep - I most certainly am pushing around a double stroller and a full ass grocery cart.  I need to get out of the house to keep my sanity (and so does Gabby) so we do what we gotta go.  And my newborn needs to eat, so I nurse in public without fear this time.  I am so not shy anymore.

This is great advice!  I may be looking back at this post if we ever have #2.

What kind of double jogging do you have - a double wide or a double long?  What brand?  And, how on earth do you push two carts (or a double stroller and a cart) while at Target?

    We have this stroller:  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Baby-Trend-Skylar-Double-Jogging/10877916?sourceid=1500000000000003260330&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=10877916

It was one of the least expensive (yeah I wanted a Phil & Ted jogger but that was so far out of budget!) but got good reviews.  I wanted the side-by-side because I would mainly use it in places like the zoo/aquarium and the park (walking the track) so I wanted to know that both kids could see well and not feel trapped behind the other.  The only thing I miss is not being able to put Genna's car seat directly into it (I know some joggers offer a conversion kit to do so - this one doesn't) but it's not a huge deal since each seat reclines all the way back independently so she can  lay while Gabby sits up.  I love it so far!  Takes up my whole trunk, tho.  haha  But in general it's not all that wide - it's pretty slim compared to other side-by-sides.  I had no problem pushing it/maneuvering it with one had at the aquarium the other day.

I use two carts at Target because their carts are kind of small - once I put Genna's car seat into the big portion of the cart there is no room for anything else.  Gabby sits in the upper seat part of the cart.  I just keep my hands on their cart at all times, push them ahead of me, and pull the other behind me (or the same if I use the stroller).  When I go down an aisle I take the kids with me and leave the other cart at the end of the aisle - our Target has short little aisles but it's also a PITA because it's two stories so I always end up lugging both carts into the elevator.  That's always a mess.  lol  I seriously have to laugh at myself, but this is what works for now.  I would love if Genna would just let me wear her in a carrier but that's a no go thus far.  *sigh*

  • omg that is a workout! i'm trying to picture it and it sorta stresses me out just thinking about it! you're a better person than me :)
