Dr. Loretta I need your advice on this one please

since I know you've made the jump from academia to industry I'd like your advice on this one...So after much thought over the 3 day weekend and considering all pros and cons I decided it would be more reasonable to pass the offer I had on friday that was 60 miles away. (a good 45 miles of it would have been stop and go and it was a 8 to 4 position so no way to avoid sitting in traffic for hourssss). It was a hard decision though.

Anyway so yesterday I received a call from the recruiter about a position in a well known pharmaceutical company that's close to me, and it will pay 22 or 23% more than what I was making (the CRC job I was offered friday paid 5% more than what I was making) however here is the problem, it's very entry level. The description make it sound like it'll be more secretarial work, which I am okay with per se because essentially my goal was to get my foot in industry and move within the company, but is there a chance that this will end up hurting my resume I've worked hard to build. I'd send you my resume if it'll help you give me advice. Here is what the recruiter wrote me today: "be very hands off and just in support of managers in the production group ? strictly administrative duties."

Just a side note, I finished my regulatory affairs certificate program yesterday so my certificate should come soon and I am signing up to take the next RAC exam offered in October, I was hoping that would help me land an entry level RA job.

Re: Dr. Loretta I need your advice on this one please

  • I always go in with the philosophy that it doesn't hurt to at least interview and check it out. Maybe it's very administrative, but they tend to promote from within and you having your RAC certification in October means they could move you up quicky. But you won't really know until you chat with the recruiter, and potentially the company, in more detail.

I could always look at your resume and see what it would like like with this job added to it. You can PM me.

And please, anyone else who's made the transition from academia to industry, chime in!
