recommend your fridge, pls!

We have had one problem after another with our stupid, piece of sh*t refrigerator :-( It's not even 4 years old and apparently the mother board of the computer that regulates the temperature is no good--that's a $350 repair. Considering the fact that we have had a service person out at our house about once every 6 months for the past 2 years for this thing, there is no way we are going to pay for a repair that big.

So that's the very long way of me asking for a recommendation for a brand (not GE!) or model of a fridge that has worked well for you.

We have a side-by-side and I'm happy with that. When we originally redid our kitchen, I really wanted one with the french doors, but found that they were way, way more expensive and I couldn't justify the cost. I'm not sure if those have come down in price, but will be looking into that.

Re: recommend your fridge, pls!

  • We went from a side by side to french doors and love it! We used to have a bottom freezer a long time ago in a crappy TH we rented and it was horrible, ice would always build up and we'd have to scrap it out so I was reluncent to get one again but I guess they have improved them bc we have no problems with ours. Its a Fridgidaire and has the water/ice in the door, I believe we paid about $1900 for it, I dont remember the size but we got it at a moving sale for one of the appliance stores since they were moving to a different location.
  • Afraid I'm gonna recommend french doors, too.

We don't have one anymore but I really, really hate not being able to fit a large pizza box or platter in the fridge.

  • we have a Whirlpool that we have had for 4 years and have had no problems. The only thing I don't like is the water filters are pricey.

  • We have a Kenmore Elite. We bought it back in November and so far I love it!  It is a side by side, has the ice maker on the door so it doesn't take up that room in the freezer part.  The freezer is big enough to fit a large pizza box.
  • We got a Thermador french door frig and I love it!  I love being able to fit wider thing in.  I was kind of worried about having space in a lower drawer freezer, but I haven't had any issues yet.
