Gym Recs? (XP with TK)

So we're moving to Brooklyn Park (kinda by the 252/610/694 split) in a few weeks. Any suggestions on gyms in that area?  I see the *** Rapids YMCA isn't far away, but I haven't gone to a Y since high school.

We currently belong to Snap, but I really miss having group classes to attend.

On a related note- anyone looking for a workout buddy in the NW 'burbs? ;)

Re: Gym Recs? (XP with TK)

  • DH and I use the Y in Elk River.  I think the one in C Rapids is bigger but a few years older.  I like the Y over Snap/Anytime/24Hour because of the classes and the pool.  I like that I can bring my nieces & nephews with me to any Y when I have them.

  • We belong to Fitness 19 so I don't have any other recs but I've heard good things about the CR YMCA, our neighbors go there and love it.

  • Is there a Gold's Gym near you? We belong there and I love the classes and it's only $20/mo.

  • Hi there. There is a lot of lifetimes around the area.  but there is a la fitness over by 610 and zane. and there is one also in northtown in **** rapids.  I personally go to lifetime.  I live off 169 and 81.  so i go to maple grove, **** rapids, plymouth, champlin all over based on classes.

  • I go to the C00n Rapids YMCA 4 or 5 days a week. I love the facility, its clean and fairly new. I really like the classes and the people that go there are pretty laid back. I've never had to wait for cardio equipment.

I used to go to Lifetime in Woodbury and just wasn't happy with it. I'm much more at home at the Y.

  • Thanks everyone!  I think I might check out the Y. I've never been to a Gold's; I had no idea they had classes!

Also... we can't type c0on? wtf?

  • Yep, apparently I live in a racial slur....

I think the Y is still doing a 5 day free trial pass if you go to their website. I wanted to check it out a little bit before I made a commitment. Yep, just checked, they still have the free trial...

A lot of health insurance plans will give you $20 off your membership if you go a certain number of times a month. Brings my membership down a little bit.
