recs for fun things to do as a tourist in the DC area?

Hi all... I feel stupid posting this since I'm from the DC area (Springfield, VA), but I haven't lived their since I was 18 and only go back to visit once every couple years, so I'm not familiar with the current cool things to do. :)

Anyway, I have friends from the UK who are going to be visiting DC for several days, and they asked me for recs, therefore, I'm asking you! I was going to tell them to try and get to Georgetown and Old Towne, but if anyone has any specific restaurants/bars/touristy things to do, I would really appreciate it! They love good food and wine/beer, like museums and such, and are generally active people if that helps at all. TIA for any advice!

  • for restaurants I always recommend teaism (lunch/brunch).  for dinner I like rasika, proof, zaytinya/jaleo/oyamel (different restaurants, but all the small plates concept), central.  dc also has some great Ethiopian restaurants if they are into something new.  My favorite is in DC, but I've heard Dukem & Etete recommended often.
