any fun get-away spots with kids?

I would like to go do something fun with the girls for a long weekend this summer. We will probably already go to the Omaha Zoo for a weekend but I wanted to do something else too.. camping/cabin, water park, anything really.. within a 3-4 hr drive and something an 18 month old and 3.5 yr old would enjoy..

  • We are going to King's Point in Storm Lake...boring town, but nice hotel/water park!
  • We drove through Hannibal, MO on our way home from TN, and there are a lot of things there that I'd like to take my boys to.  It's roughly 4 hours from DSM. There are lots of caves for exploration and the hotels seemed affordable.

We love King's Point.  They have water features for just about every age, including a zero depth area that my nephew who wasn't even one enjoyed.  We went in the winter so we didn't get to enjoy the outside part, but I'm told its even better than inside.

  • We've been to Honey Creek (in southern Iowa) a few times with my parents & brother & sister and their families (and kids). They have the indoor "water park" (on the small-ish side, IMO, but the kids still really enjoy it); an indoor game area; ourdoor playground area; bikes to rent (my nephew really enjoyed that); beach & boats; planned activities for kids/families (depending on the day); cabins; hotel; restaurant; etc...
