is there a dog swim park in VA?

I saw the post below about the one in Anne Arundel County, but that's a bit if a ways from Herndon. Does anyone know of a place for dogs to swim in VA? (other than the baby pool we've got set up which is so very Klassee)

Re: is there a dog swim park in VA?

  • The one in Shirlington is along the water and I always see dogs swimming there.

  • I know at the end of the season a lot of the pools will do a doggy swim.  Not sure about during the season though.
  • I always see dogs swimming off of Roosevelt Island in the Potomac.  Same for some of the streams off of Turkey Run.  When I lived in Burke briefly, the community lakes in the townhouse developments seemed to allow dogs swimming as well.
  • Shirlington dog park off Four Mile Run has both an off leash dog park and allows dogs to swim in the stream.

    thanks (to PP, too)!

after I posted, I Googled (I know, should have Googled first) and I saw that... mixed reviews but certainly closer and therefore worth checking out!

  • Note about Four Mile Run and Roosevelt Island: watch out for Giardia. Those streams/areas are notorious for yucky stuff, and my lab got giardia after swimming at Roosevelt. She's never had a problem with Shirlington/Four Mile Run... but other dogs definitely have, so just be careful!
