Let's talk vacation

Summer is pretty much here (in some parts of the country at least) and that means my mind is on vacation.  It makes the most sense for us to take vacation during summer months since Suri's out of school.

What trips do you have planned or where did you go already this year?

Trip-wise I've only been to Vegas this year but I don't count that as a vacation.

We'll be taking an actual vacation this summer.  I was originally planning to go to NC & DC but, although we have the money for it, we decided against it.  If we use our travel account money we will pretty much exhaust it and at the moment we use it as our back up fund rather than use savings.  I pay it back the second I can but taking the pay cut has hurt pretty bad along with us both commuting so we don't put in nearly as much as we used to.  But hey, things are looking up now that I got promoted!

For the last three years we went to Hawaii.  Oh how I love it there but this year and wish we were going again but this year we'll be staying local.  We'll be headed to a camping resort in San Diego.  The beach is there, sailing, and a pool are some of the things they offer.  So although we'll be *roughing it* in a tent we'll have tons of fun.  The place has tons of activities to keep us busy.  To top it off we're going with anopther couple and their kids.

  • We've been to NJ a couple times, but that doesn't count. We are going to Chincoteague, VA in August. We had originally planned to go for just a couple days since I have been off for mat leave, but my boss said I should take the whole week!

We're going to NYC at the end of November/beginning of December.

We would like to do a weekend in Chicago this summer and a weekend camping. No dates have been nailed down. We are discussing camping of the weekend of the 4th of July with friends, though.

  • No vacations for us. Crying

The basement is pretty expensive (like 2 big vacations worth, probably more) and since we went to HI in September we aren't planning on going anywhere. DH doesn't have much vacation time anyways. Plus I'm in a wedding in September so I'll be shelling out dollars for the shower and bach party soon. Then there's always the eventual TTC that we want to make sure we have a nice savings account for.

My aunt, uncle, and cousin live an hour outside DC so if we wanted a quick, inexpensive trip we could always drive down there.

In March, we went to Palm Springs, CA for 3 days (such a quick cross-country trip!) and last week we took our babymoon in Hilton Head, SC... other than that, we'll do weekends in Maine and then I have a nice 8-12 week maternity leave. I will not have any time off this summer!

  • We're going to ME to visit the folks and we'll leave P with them for 2 days when we go to Acadia/Bar Harbor.

We have a wedding in the city in July, but I'm counting this because we're leaving P with my ILs overnight and staying there (it's a really nice center city hotel).

I just found out about an hour ago that I can't go to the shore the week my ILs booked the house (we just go for a couple of days, they stay the whole week), because I have to start my new job.  Communication error when discussing dates, I guess.  Hopefully B can take P, because one of the reasons they picked the house was for the playground nearby.

  • We don't have anything planned aside from some extended time on the Cape (a whole week in July probably vs just the weekends).

  • We went to a wedding in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. That was fun but I wish we'd had more time there/better weather. Our only day with time to enjoy the beach it was cool and rainy.

Right now we're planning a trip to Toronto for our anniversary. I'd love to go back to NYC for our anniversary, but frankly, Toronto is closer so we'll be able to spend more time in the city and less time in the car. We're also planning a trip (for next Feb/March) to Florida.

I (we) will be going on a lot of road trips for concerts. I'll be down south of Buffalo a lot, Oswego, Ohio, ect. Those are all just an overnight at most though. :)

  • Our annual gold prospecting trip is only a month away!! A week of pure bliss, getting dirty and finding gold!!

We decided to go to Mexico for DH's cousin wedding in November but we are not sure as we will not be staying with family as we original thought. We still have some time to decide.

  • We went to LA earlier this year for the Rose Bowl and a few weeks ago went to Portland, OR for my cousin's wedding.  Other than that, we have a few weekend trips planned and most likely driving to visit my parents around Christmas while I am on maternity leave.

Since DH and I are able to travel through his work he really wants to go to Mexico this summer, but I am saving as much vacation as I can to supplement my maternity leave, so we'll see if that happens or not.

  • So far this year:

March- Weekend in Punta Gorda, FL for my cousin's wedding

April- Bahamas, Atlantis at Paradise Island for DH's award trip from work.

May- Weekend at our friend's cabin in the mountains (not really vacay, but we got away for a night and weren't visiting family).

June- Weekend in KC shopping for wedding dresses with SIL, weekend in Estes Park/Rocky Mtn National Park for bachelorette weekend

July- July 4th weekend (leaving Fri, coming back Mon) in Seattle for DH's 30th bday with his bff and wife.

September- Just bought a living social "escape" to Telluride, CO for a weekend, I'm hoping we can get reservations the weekend after our anniversary (week before is a festival and the voucher won't work that week) so that will be our anniversary trip.  We might go to Santa Fe for that weekend instead if we can't get reservations for that weekend.  Originally planned on SF for the ann'y trip, but we both really want to go to Telluride and it is usually very expensive to stay there.

  • We'll be in Boston this weekend for the 5k I'm running in on Sunday.

Alexi is trying to coordinate a camping trip now with this brothers for some time this summer.  Not sure on the dates yet.

We are also going on a cruise the first week of August to Bermuda.  It's a week long cruise and I can't wait.  It's my 5th cruise, I think, but my first on NCL.  I'm curious to check them out.

  • I forgot that we went to TX this year too. Mostly to visit ILs of course, but we went to the TX Bowl, and a NYE concert in Dallas, and got to see my BFF that is down at Fort Sam Houston right now.

BIL is engaged and planning on getting married this summer. Back in April he told us early July...Welp, now they're saying August. They want a small wedding and big reception. I don't think that he realizes just how much work goes into planning a wedding. If they do confirm a date in August we'll be going to TX...melting.

  • we haven't gone anywhere this year. I usually travel a little for rugby at least but we didn't even have any good away trips this spring. I am going to Pittsburgh next week with the U23s, but that's not really a trip and the only sightsee-y thing I might do is a baseball game.

We're going to StLouis in October to see family. that's probably it. Yawn.

  • Well, we were just in hawaii end of april. We tend to be "shoulder season travelers" meaning we travel spring or fall. Because we dislike crowds. Nothing planned yet for the summer but here are my ideas/thing I am working on: Long weekend to wisconsin dells with my parents and sisters family. It is water park central plus there are some outdoorsy thing to do. Maybe camp with my parents for a weekend. In sept we are thinking of going up north to the apostle islands for 4-5 days to go kayaking etc. This would be our anniversary trip too.
  • May - Norah and I went back to CO for a long weekend, but I don't think that counts as vacation if I worked the entire time I was there...

June - the three of us are going to Myrtle Beach next week for 3 days. It will be our real first beach vacation. I am excited!

I am using most of my leave for when my parents and brother visit for Norah's birthday. So no other trips planned for us until Christmas.

Last weekend I got a text from my mom telling me she was in NY for my grandparents 50th anniversary. What the heck mom!? I had 4 days off, I could have went. My mom tends to go places and not tell us until she's there.

  • We booked a trip to Kauai for the first week in November, I'm so excited!  I also want to do Mexico early next year, and it will probably be with my younger sister as DH has no interest in going to Mexico.

I am totally jealous of this!  I can't do any of the slides this year, but I totally want to go just to float in the wave pool and around the lazy river!

    Hey, how was Cedarburg?

Lol. I don't quite understand the love people around here have for St. Louis. I'd much rather drive twice as long and go to Chicago.
