Probably a dumb question, but if I don't need any guidance, etc would it be better (cheaper) to head to a place like Walmart for flowers/shrubs or a nursery?

Re: nursery vs. Walmart
I am a plant-buying addict...and I usually hit up all the places that carry plants.
My favorites are :
Menards for cheapest prices although you have to keep stopping by and checking because they get new stuff in pretty often.
Lowes for good prices and nice plants.
Earl May for really nice plants or more unusual things but they are way more expensive than other places.
HyVee also has really nice plants (especially the garden center at 86th and Douglas) but they are a little higher priced.
I've also ordered plants off of ebay and had success with those as well- things like unusual ornamental grasses or hostas.
THanks ladies! Since the girls were being good, we went to Rene's and Home Depot. Rene's didn't have a huge selection but a good one. I found a gallon pot of flowers for $5 at Rene's that was $7.49 at HD, but overall HD was cheaper, so I got the best of both worlds.
We're excited to get planting. AND thank you so much for recommending BHG.com for garden plans. I found one that's perfect for our front garden and for our rain garden.
I'm glad you made it to Rene's! I was really pleased with them, I had never been there before!
