The purge continues..

I tackled the closet that I was worried about and have since moved onto some of the storage stuff we had in the basement, our room and the downstairs closet.

I have thrown away 6 garbage bags full of junk and donated away 5 more. I also, got rid of toys that we either hated (some really annoying noisey ones) or ones DD never played with. I convinced DH to donate away two huge brass lamps that we both hated but his parents gave us, so we held onto them.

We will be married 5 years in July and so we decided 5 years was long enough to "try and find a use for these".

I have one more closet to go through and reorganize.

I can see my dining room table for the first time since bringing home my classroom boxes. I lost my job so I had to move out of my room.

Hopefully this weekend I will be able to get DH to go through some ofhis old crap and get rid of it.

  • Wow! That's a ton of work you got done!  I'm jealous.  I keep saying I'm going to do it - but then I get sidetracked. :(

  • I recently cleaned my house before I moved in with DH. It felt good, like a giant weight has been lifted. Especially, since I have a bad back and knees I had the Salvation Army came to pick up everything I had bagged and then next year I can claim my donations on next years taxes. You should look them up and put some money back in your pocket. Smile
  • Great job!

I know what you mean about feeling obligated to keep things given to you by parents. My parents bought us a sofa when we were married 3 years ago. We finally saved up and bought new living room furniture in April. We gave the sofa away. Fortunately, my mother hasn't asked about the old couch yet, I'm sure she'd have a fit.
