moms of 2?

If you have a dr. appointment, do you take both kids with you?

I have so far only taken K with me, because R is afraid of doctor's offices.  I had an appointment next Tuesday, but they just called to reschedule it for tomorrow morning.   Anyone I could possibly ask to watch him is busy, so I'm thinking I'm going to have to take them both with me.  I'm not worried about them acting out, because R is really good and K usually just sleeps at that time...I'm more concerned with R freaking out if something beeps. He usually starts freaking out when we walk into the waiting room.

I don't want to reschedule the appointment again because I would probably have to wait another week to get in and I just want to get this taken care of (hopefully they'll schedule my hernia surgery tomorrow), so I think I'm just going to suck it up and take them both.  I'll have to let R play on my phone, since that seems to keep him occupied pretty well.

Re: moms of 2?

  • I know Im not a mom of two yet...but it might be a good opportunity to get him more used to a doctors office in general if you take him. Explain that he is not going to the doctor to be seen but you are and then if he sees you behaving normally with the doctor it might help calm his fears about seeing his own doctor....I mean you never know, it might work.

  • I was thinking the same thing...but if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck with a REALLY loud, sobbing child who "just wants to go home" - which is all he would say.

My only other option is for my mom to take him with her to her nail appointment tomorrow.

  • I have taken both of them to alot of appts. Mainly to bubs, just make sure you bring crayons/coloring book or a leapster if he has one. I also bring drinks and snacks and some small toys to keep them occupied. Sometimes its a hassle but you just gotta do it sometimes. Good Luck!
  • Once I took all 3. Never again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was ready for 12 drinks half way through.
  • If I can avoid taking them both, then I don't. I only take them both by myself if I absolutely have to. Jake is a real handful.
  • I take them both when I have to, not the best thing in the world, but its manageable. I'm sure if you have something for him to do, phone, or game etc would deffinatly help out. Tomorrow they both have dentist appts, so no choice in that one!

  • I normally wouldn't mind, but with R's fear of the doctor's, I really don't want to take him.  I mean, I had to pick something up one day, and he started screaming and crying before we even entered the waiting room.  It was crazy.

Thankfully, my mom is taking him with her to her nail appointment.  She's got an ipad and he'll just sit and play with that.  She said it's not crowded, and it's usually just her and the girl that's doing her nails.
