hostess gift

Ok, this is last minute but I am in need of some quick ideas and you are all so good at this!

We're staying with good friends of ours tomorrow night in Pittsburgh before we go to a wedding on Sat. They just had a baby a month ago. I'm bringing a little something for baby, but I also wanted to bring something as a hostess gift.  They're not big drinkers, so I didn't want to do wine or booze.  I thought maybe a nice box of chocolates, so I stopped in Teuscher today and they wanted $50 for a teeny tiny box of chocs. Naked Choc is now closed, so I'm quickly trying to locate another place to get chocolates or something else that they might like.  I'm at a loss here.  I also thought flowers, but we're going to be in the car 6-7 hours, so I'm not sure they are going to make it.

Any ideas?  TIA!

Re: hostess gift

  • Go to 13th street north of Sansom - try the chocolates at Verde - or their home gifts.

Or try Open House and get one of the fabulously awesome candles. or anything there.  Love that store.

  • Ditto rum, if you can't come up with a nice hostess gift in Open House you're a little soft in the head.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • Ahh fabulous suggestions!  Thank you all so much!

I may be leaning towards Termini's or 4th Street since both are on my way to work tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll have time to run out to Verde or Open House, but those are excellent suggestions.

Thanks again all... solved a time-crunched crisis.

  • My go-to (and shelf-stable) gift is olive oil and balsamic with a set of tea towels.  With such a long drive, I'd be worried about the consistency of the cannolis on my arrival.
  • Ok, so cookies from Termini Bros it is!  I went with cookies just because of the length of the drive.  And in case we need to briefly stop, they should be ok.
