Re: soap scum

  • I use Dawn dish soap & a loofah to scrub our shower.

  • Believe it or not I use a wet fabric softener sheet for the glass in the shower and then rinse and dry it - it works surprisingly well! For the bottom of the shower I use the Clorox clinging toilet cleaner. Just squirt it in there and scrub it around so it covers evenly - if you don't you'll be able to see where it was squirted on later. Then I let it sit for a few minutes and scrub as I rinse it away.  :)
  • DH is in construction and is so filthy he changes into clean work clothes before he gets in his truck to dirve home.  Our shower is disgusting only after a couple of days.  I have also never had much elbow grease.  I used to use a Magic Eraser, but I have found that a microfiber cloth and my normal bathroom cleaner works the best.
  • For glass shower doors, vinegar works wonders.

For the tub, I just use the yellow Lysol and a sponge. I also use the Method shower spray after I shower to help prevent buildup.

  • Scrub Free.  I spray it on, leave for 5-10 minutes, then scrub a little & rinse.  I think the less bar soap you use, the less scum accumulates.  Shower gel is good for keeping the scum-factor low.  And I use Arm & Hammer daily shower spray after each shower.
  • This may not be a huge help because I can't think of the name off-hand but it's in the cleaning section at Lowe's, I can't find it online. It's not a name I have ever heard of. It comes in powder form or liquid/paste (like soft scrub). It is made to get rust and all the build up and what-not off of many different surfaces without ruining the finish. It cost $2.48 and works phenomenal! My shower had so much build up on it from our water, none of my green cleaners would get it off without scrubbing away the finish.
  • thanks everyone!

  • I put a thin layer of clorox powder in the tub, then turn on the shower to get it damp and then let it sit while I clean the rest of the bathroom. After about a half hour or so I give it a good scrub with a bristle brush and viola!
  • I use Comet on my shower walls and glass door. I wear gloves, use a wet rag and Comet, and the soaps wipes right off.
