Surgery???

so, i have cronic sinus infections. this past one has really knocked me on my butt. luckily i have a really good ent. i have to get a ct scan soon and we are going to discuss surgery options for my severely deviated septum. has anyone had this kind of surgery before? i am a little scared of it, but know the outcome will be for the better. any thoughts?

I haven't been through it personally, but I know two friends who have had it done, and it was life changing for both of them. I'm sorry Tongue Tied No, I don't know anyone that's had that surgery. Even with my awful allergies, its all just nature-related.

I don't *think* the surgery is for allergies, it's for people who keep getting sinus infections. They could have a deviated septum like Noelle's, which causes gunk and bacteria to build up, or they could have polyops or something that causes breathing problems.

I had a friend who went from having around 8-9 sinus infections per year, to 1-3 sinus infections a year. So it obviously did not totally cure her, but it made a dramatic difference.

yeah - he told me that it isn't for allergies. it would be strictly for my severely deviated septum. i was in so much pain yesterday when he was looking in my nose, that i was crying like a baby. he apologized profusely for hurting me but said my nose is so messed up that he could hardly get his instruments in to look around. he said the surgery would dramatically reduce the number of sinus infections i have. i just get so miserable that i think i can handle the uncomfortableness for a couple of weeks to not have to feel like this any more.

Thats what I meant - even though I'm continually FUBAR'd its allergy related, not a sinus problem.

I have heard the same. That if you do have the surgery it can greatly lessen the problems or frequency.

i don't think it's exactly the same, but i had sinus surgery my senior year of HS. i got one wicked sinus infection in my forehead sinuses, and surgery was the only way to fix it and keep me from getting meningitis, or going blind.

they juist drilled a small hole near my eyebrow, and created a new drainage path down my nose with a tube, the real one had scarred over.

literally the only really painful part was when they had to go up my nose and snip the stitches that kept the tube in place...but that was about 15 seconds of pain.

oh, and you know how when your nose is stopped up and sometimes it whistles when you breathe? i did that for 6 weeks while the tube was in....drove me crazy trying to get to sleep, but that was it.

omg i know!! i kept telling my parents i was gonna snatch that tube out myself, because the sound was like torture!
